While his welcome is fairly worn out here obviously, There are still some schools out there who would probably give him a shot to have a fresh start somewhere new. Coaches have moved or been hired with worse records and everybody understands the difficulties Kentucky faces. So this is a best of all worlds scenarios if indeed something like this were to happen. Issue is when. VT can't make a hire until after the season unless we let him go as well. Has that ever happened? A coach resigning or getting fired at one school, then getting hired by another school with an opening mid-season? Can't think of a time that ever happened. Plenty have been hired or moved around during Bowl season and not coached their teams in bowl games, but never mid-season.

Someone that hires Stoops would want a 70/30 run to pass and defense. Stoops would be a good coach for FCS teams. Virginia Tech would be foolish to hire Stoops. My 2 cents.

And the problem with this scenario is UK is still firing him and paying his buyout, unless the VaTech deal was worked out beforehand and Stoops let’s UK out of the buyout so he can join VaTech sooner. Seems unlikely.

Also, to the extend the Beamer name means anything in Blacksburg, it’s hard to imagine they hire Shane’s nemesis, who also can’t seem to beat him. Like admitting defeat in the hiring process. I have to think they would prefer Shane to Stoops.
