Franklin got canned? Wow. That's a big surprise. Won 10+ games 3 years in a row, made the playoffs last season. And he's gone? I'm guessing he won't be unemployed long.

Yeah but he never really beat anybody of consequence. He was 4-21 against top 10 teams. Couple that with the high expectations this year and losing to UCLA and Northwestern after a typical loss to Oregon and he didn't stand a chance. UCLA was not only winless, they'd never led in a game in 2025 and never trailed to Penn State.

3-7 against Michigan and 1-10 against the Buckeyes.

It's not a question of "why can't". They can do it. It's a question of will/should they do it.

However, just to clarify, I would wait until after the Auburn game before making a decision.

Let’s be honest though we might prioritize basketball but the year Cal went 9-16 he should’ve been shown the door that year! We have Mitch running the program and and handing out these ridiculous contracts. He would’ve kept Cal had Cal not been so stupid with the whole Arkansas crap.

One never knows what's going on behind the scenes. Someone, not officially connected with UK, may have already contact a prospective replacement for Stoops to gauge interest.

this years coaching carousel is going to be nuts. But I can see Franklin back in the SEC if somebody like Arkansas wants to take a flyer on him. But more realistically he could jump to someplace like Va Tech or Oklahoma St.

I just don't see this 60 days requirement a big deal. The athletic department borrowed 141 million from the university this summer. Their ability to borrow another 38M may have changed due to the creation of Champion Blue, LLC however.

If he's fired, it will be the end of the season imo. You can fire him on November 30, still be way out in front of the portal opening (January 2nd) and save about $1 million in buyout. The bigger issue is going to be where UK is in the pecking order of programs looking for a coach. If UK ends up at about 10th on that list.

They will have the money if they need to make the move. Regardless if he is owed it all in the first 60 days.

A thought/question. If UK told Stoops after the Texas game that he would be relieved of his coaching duties at the end of the season, similar to what they did with Curry in 1996 when they fired him in October, but asked him to finish out the season. And in the process, Stoops gives UK the middle finger at that idea and says no, does that mean that he would be resigning and we wouldn't owe him the buyout? I know it's very highly unlikely, but just a thought I had.
