I don’t know of any instances of coaches giving up some of the buyout just to make firing them feasible like we’d be asking of Stoops in this situation.
That’s an interesting thought. Would the fanbase be okay with another year of Stoops but in return the buyout is slashed? Drops to $10m or so. Give Stoops the resources he needs for one last chance to prove he can put together a legit SEC team in this new age of college sports, with the understanding that anything short of a bowl game and he’s gone.

They just signed a huge deal with JMI. JMI doesn't want seasons of failure for UK's biggest revenue generating sport. They along with others will make sure the money is there if needed, I have to think.

2- He has heavy business ties to this region that can be leaned on. You can pressure him through back channels

There should be a State wide boycott of any and every business interest related to Stoops.

Who needs that much $$? He needs to go at the end of the season.

Well said, Cathy, well said. The problem is a lot of people are driven by greed, and they feel like they can never have enough of whatever it is they value highly.

The Mark Stoops show is over for me. The man is terribly close to burning up all the good will he built. That would be a shame.

Indeed it would be a shame. I still have a (faint) hope that we can reach some amiable agreement with Mark. Maybe some form of position as a ambassador for the football program.

I doubt his pride would allow him to take a position like that.

I heard the Matt Jones show the other day.

Jones kept saying that Stoops feels like he deserves that money for those seasons because he signed that contract and because he took Kentucky to two ten win seasons.

The thing is Stoops did earn those paychecks during the lead up to and in those ten win seasons.

Once he started to mail it in and started to fail, he didn't deserve those paychecks.

That's the problem with signing long term contracts with these coaches. At some point, a good many of them feel like they deserve to get paid IN THE PRESENT for what they did in the last decade/past. Coaching is the only profession that has this odd phenomena. That I'm aware of at any rate.

How many times have coaches held on to a job well past their prime and had that Cal attitude or the Stoops attitude. "I know I ain't winnin' no mo' but I deserves dis paycheck for what I did ten years ago." It's some strange shit.

The arrogance of it astounds me.

But fans...a lot of fans go along with it and worship these people.

"He's AR KOCH! We luvs him! Don't you say nuttin' bad 'bout ar koch!"

Coach parasites are bad for the sport.

Coaches are hired to do a job. People act like they're unaccountable once they're in the position.

Some fans are just odd to me.

                      "I lub coach callypeeri!"

We got a couple stoopifiedz running around out there even now.

It was the same with Tubby. Same with Knight. Paterno.

Once you lost it, have the grace to step aside. So few do this.

Off of the top of my head, I can think of only Saban who went out with any kind of grace. So many others prefer to suck the lifeblood out of the programs that they built, rebuilt or raised up because they feel like they deserve a chance to turn it around until they drop dead on the court/field. Even if it takes 50 years.
