Would you want to be HC after Stoops

You have to figure the cupboard is going to be bare. Fan enthusiasm muted. Recruiting will be a problem for a while. NIL donations will dry up. Not sure an up and coming HC would choose KY over many other P4 jobs. If you fail at UK, you've probably put a huge black mark on your resume which may prevent you from ever getting that dream job.

From UK's standpoint, unless we find a coach who believes KY is his dream job, he'll either be successful and get poached by a better program or crash and burn and get fired. If I'm AD, I'd never have a long term contract or huge buyout for a HC. If the coach is good, when he gets poached the program should be in pretty good shape. If he's not successful, I don't want to be handcuffed to the guy like we are now.

Any good coach or coordinator will not want this job now. He has done so much damage it will take 5 years to overcome it. No good AD will allow that. You will have to get a youth league coach to take this job after Stoop is here 5 more years.

Rumor is 2 other SEC schools are putting feelers Sumralls way.
So I'm not sure who will want the job or what Kentucky can afford....in other words we are going to be back in the same situation as when Stoops was hired.

At this point we hope we catch lightning in a bottle.

        Look for young, hungry OCs.

        NO DCs.

        No current head coaches.

No retreads from other SEC teams.

I still think that if Stoops goes either during this year or at the end of the year that we get Jon.

I agree. Go for Will Stein at Oregon or Ben Arbuckle at OU. I don't care that they don't have HC experience get a Young Offensive minded coach to UK to at least try to atrack elite Offensive players that want to play in a exciting high powered offensive scheme

Whoever the next HC is, whether he be off. oriented or def., I hope he surrounds himself with the best assts. he can get and lets them do their jobs. For any team to be competitive, it needs to be balanced. Yes an explosive off. is exciting but it's not worth much if the def. can't stop anyone.

^Agreed. Surely, Mumme cured us of only having an offense. Losing 48-31 is still losing.

New coach helps to drum up enthusiasm and NIL- just look at the transition from Cal to Pope. Not saying it would be the same, but newness always gets people going.

I agree on points about no long contracts with large buyouts, and also going the route for a young, hungry type of coach. Might get some flack, but feel UK should look at itself as a stepping stone job. If you can come and win 8-9 games on a regular basis, let the big boys come calling and then go out and get the next up and comer.

I'll be happy to step in and do no worse, and for only 3 million on a 1 year contract.

I disagree. I think we need someone with head coaching experience, preferably an offensive mind. We have gone the route of coordinators for a while. Stoops was successful early, but as other teams reloaded, he fell off. We all know how the Joker experiment went. Brooks was a head coach before and set up a good foundation. It took time, though. Morris was a line coach and associate head coach. Mumme was a head coach at very small schools. If he had cared anything about the defense, he would have had a better career.

I want someone who can manage the team and knows how to play the other side of the ball, or bring people in who can.

Curt Signetti is a fine example.

Had season tickets when Mumme was here. Mumme helped change football. Stoops coaches 30 year old control the clock madness offense.

I guess he changed it, at least temporarily. Not that many teams still run an Air Raid, though. DCs caught on to Mumme's offense after a couple of seasons and learned how to contain it between the 20s, for the most part. Coupled with his complete disregard for fielding even a MAC-level defense, Mumme was doomed to fail once his offense quit scoring 45 points. It WAS exciting and new at the time, for sure. And, I'm guessing some of his passing game concepts still survive in some form in a lot of teams' playbooks. Just very few run a true Air Raid offense like the Run-and-shoot, wishbone, Pistol, veer, etc. before Air Raid. After enough exposure, DCs figure things out and OCs have to come up with something new or, at the very least, cobble together several different ideas into a 'system'.

Or, we can always default to the "I'm gonna pick a play out of a hat" Hamdan-style of offense. Oh, yeah, and when the first play doesn't work, I'm gonna throw long to WRs who couldn't get open against a HS team.
