Va Tech is a significant step down from an SEC school. SEC and Big10 jobs are gold now. It's exactly why FSU, Florida, Miami, Clemson and UNC all want out of the ACC. There are 2 power conferences now and then everyone else. The ACC is honestly 4th behind the Big12 and dangerously close to falling behind the AAC.

Perhaps I'm living in a Pollyanna world and seeing things through rose-colored glasses, but this is one reason why I'd like to see Sumrall as our next fb coach. I believe an alum would be more loyal to UK and less likely to leave if he were successful.Philippians 4:11-4:13👍 1Comment

I agree that the university would lose money due to lack of tickets sold, merchandise, etc.I guess that I would feel better about the future of the football program and perhaps other fans as well if we knew how the program is going to afford to buyout Mark Stoops at the end of the season if it doesn't get better.Comment

Not sure I understand your concern. Here is a hypothetical example for you. Note, I'm just making this up. I have no idea what the a actual numbers are. Let's say that the athletic department estimates the lose of ticket sales, concessions, etc will be 12M a year. Assuming the estimate is valid they can then go to a lender and borrow 50 million by pledging money from ticket sales, concessions, etc for five years. That gives them 40M to buyout Mark and 10M to cover other cost.

I hope that your example can play out if the Cat's have another less than mediocre season and thanks for the reply.

The question for me is how can they afford not to. If the football program is not doing well and fan support drops, other sports in the athletic department will suffer. Like it or not football makes the most money.👍 1Comment

I agree with you totally, football is the cash cow. I just hope that the school doesn't allow what you have referred to happen. I would like to see Coach Stoops get the program going in the right direction again but I think that fire isn't burning in him like it was 5 years ago.👍 1Comment

I get that to a degree, but Va Tech isn't a step down. If those other schools leave the ACC, Va Tech will look to leave right along with them. VT has played for a National Championship before. Not something South Carolina can claim. Beamer was on the team that played for that Championship too. Don't underestimate the ties to an alma mater, and if you have a warm seat, it doesn't make sense for him to stick around and take that heat. By no means am I saying it's a lock for him, just saying don't discount it happening.

Do the math. If this season goes off the rails. How much in revenue will they lose next year by keeping him around? The Stadium will be a ghost town, Players will leave, it will set us back to Joker Era levels. You can't afford NOT to fire him. That buyout will be paid for somehow. They will find a way to get it done. The University wouldn't put buyouts of that nature in the contracts if they didn't feel like they had options or ways for paying it. The University has likely close to a billion dollars in Capital projects all going on at once on that Campus. look at all the Construction Cranes.
Get the buyout paid, then make it up by injecting new energy into the program. How much of a revenue increase do you think they saw when they fired Joker and hired Stoops. Remember that first spring for Stoops with nearly 50K people in the stands?"It don't make much sense that common sense don't make no sense no more" John Prine👍 1Comment

They have the money to pay and I think Stoops would take less also. A negotiation would be worked out.👍 1Comment

Honestly, I think if we squeak into a bowl game, there will be schools out there willing to take a flyer on him and give him a fresh start. May be a lateral or somewhat downward move but Knowing how hot his seat is here and the fact he's lost faith with the fans, I can see him pulling a Calipari or Tubby and moving on and negotiating that buyout way down in the process.

I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see a bowl game happening for us this year. If we win Sat. it's possible, lose that one and all bowl hopes are gone in my opinion.

I've made my opinions known about that in other threads on here, This game this weekend is probably the biggest in Stoops career in terms of being a pivot point for this season and ultimately his job. If we can pull out a win, then I can foresee a couple more possibilities among a reeling Florida, Vandy (though they look pretty tough), Louisville. Tennessee Tech is a gimme. A Lot will hinge on our QB play and if Boley gives us a boost as opposed to a bust. Lose Saturday and all bets are off."It don't make much sense that common sense don't make no sense no more" John Prine👍 2Comment

Agreed. Win this game and it can build a little momentum and keep folks calm. Lose and UK is very likely looking at 5 straight Ls and the wheels coming completely off.
