UCLA and Va Tech already fire their coaches

Pretty early in the season to be firing a HC but they didn't waste much time. I guess losing big to Old Dominion (Va Tech) was just too big an embarrassment to keep the HC. Shane Beamer is rumored to be one of several candidates being considered/wished for, as is Michael Vick who has coached (I think) 2 games in his career. Several others were mentioned in the article I read on ESPN.

UCLA is perplexing to me. Gorgeous campus, co-eds, plenty of wealthy alumni, a mother lode of athletic talent within 20 mile radius, but just can't seem to find the right guy to get that program on firm footing. May never be a blue blood like USC but certainly could be 8+ wins a season type of program.

I don't believe Gruden would be able to resurrect the UCLA program. He'd make a splash initially but don't think he'd make a good college coach.

Maybe we get lucky and UCLA will want the top 10 paid coach Mark Stoops and will take him off our hands ala the Arky and Cal situation. No?

Hey, Mark Stoops has a proven record of enticing Ohio/Michigan players to come to a school outside the traditional Big 10 footprint. Maybe he can get some Youngstown boys to come to sunny southern California!

Any school who fires the coach 2 games into the season, unless there is a criminal element involved, is doing a major disservice to the players and the fans. And yes I realize some of the fans were probably calling for the coach(es) to be fired. At this point of the season their AD(s) have written off the entire season.

Their seasons are over. Both are 0 and 3 and eliminated from playoff contention. Neither is winning their conference either. So seasons over.

This is exactly why Sexton gets these huge buy outs tacked on to his clients contracts. It takes all the leverage away from the schools/booster. Basically, "you wanted to hire this person, you will have to pay heavily to get rid of them". Needless to say, UK should still be trying to get rid of Stoops at seasons end. Calls in order should be Brent Key, Jon Sumrall, Will Stein, Alex Golesh

He will be connected to a lot of openings. He won't leave Tulane or make a decision like that till after the season though. Can't see him matriculating to CA either. Va Tech will probably go hard after Shane Beamer first, before they look anywhere else. Would be a lateral at best move for him, but his ties are strong there.

Conference title contention, not necessarily, they haven't played enough conference games to be out of it. I think it was too soon in a season to fire them. I think the right time is when they are mathematically out of Bowl contention. Get to that point and can them. If we get to where we are out of the bowl picture then I wouldn't be mad if we canned Stoops then.
