While I'm glad to see that Zach has returned to practice, i hope this doesn't indicate Cutter will not get much play Sat.

Calzada returns to practice

Stoops said Boley will definitely play Saturday, but didn't indicate how much. We SHOULD roll Eastern Michigan. It should be a game that the offense gets to actually produce something. So I hope that even If Calzada starts, either his leash is really short, or we get up enough that Boley can play the entire second half. But if that's the case I fear him handing off 5 out of every 6 plays and not really getting to run the offense like he would in a close game. My hope is it's the reverse. That Boley starts and plays three quarters, gets good reps in and gets us up by a comfortable margin then Calzada plays the fourth quarter. Then we use the BYE week to get Boley the majority of the first team reps in preparation for South Carolina."It don't make much sense that common sense don't make no sense no more" John Prine -
Stoops is still here. I would be shocked if Boley starts, much less plays very much. Stoops has done his thing the same way for the entire time he has been here. Calzada has not impressed at all in two games. We shall see come Saturday.👍 2Comment

Through two games, Calzada hasn't done nearly enough to justify giving him the starting job moving forward. IMO, you have to play Boley to start the game to see what he offers, I just don't see Stoops doing it.👍 2Comment

A lot of people are going to be really disappointed when they realize the offense looks no better under Boley than it does under Calzada.👍 2Comment

Nick Roush posted about 3 hrs ago he's the expected starter.. Nothing from UK yet though..
Guessing or was this announced?
Edit: Just found this. article doesn't really confirm it though, just says he was taking the first team reps, which I would assume to be the case considering Calzada was nursing a sore shoulder.

I agree with Hogwallop - I don't think Boley is a game-changer. He's still green, he still has some of the issues that showed last year, he still has below average WR corps and Hamdan calling plays. Why does anyone think plugging Boley in is going to be an about-face for the offense?
I think both need several series and to experience live reps and real success to bolster their confidence. Having a QB with little confidence in letting the ball go on time and trusting the receiver will be there to catch it will only lead to more of the same pitiful offense we've seen thus far. If both light EMU up with the addition of the bye week, perhaps both QBs will be able to perform better going forward.
Let's face it - EMU ought to be a 4+ TD win on Saturday. Pretty much anyone on this board could be successful calling plays Saturday as UK is facing one of the worst D1 teams. We should have significant talent advantages at pretty much every position. If we let Boley play the entire game, that will bite us in the butt at some point because Calzada will not have worked out his problems and experience live success when we have to rely on him again (and we will, I predict). Same story for playing Calzada for more than half the game. I think I'd start Boley and let him go for 3 series. Then Calzada for 3. Then let them rotate two series each back and forth. I would guess, after 10 series, we should be ahead by 28 or more and we can then play everyone else. But, our 1st and 2nd teamers need many reps in live action - as many as they can get without risking injury and needlessly running up the score.Comment

Not sure how flip flopping them in and out after so many series really allows them to have any sort of continuity. I like the idea of letting Boley play an entire half then Calzada an entire half. it allows them to play through their mistakes. But regardless, I think it's more important for us to go with the kid who is supposed to be the future and a potential 3-4 year starter, than the one who's in year seven and has no future beyond this season. If we are going to make the switch, now's the time. Easy game to work out some issues, followed by an off week, followed by a team we SHOULD be able to compete with, as opposed to setting him up for failure by tossing him into the fire against UGA on the road when down by three scores. He fared well against Texas when tossed into that situation last year, but we all saw how he did against UofL the following week.I agree with Hogwallop - I don't think Boley is a game-changer. ^Flip flopping them can be problematic, for sure. But, there is also a good chance that, sometime during the season, whoever happens to be QB2 may need to come in cold and keep the offense moving rather than handing off 2 times, throwing a bubble screen for no gain and punting like we've done WAY too many times in the past. Maybe putting them to the test against a vastly inferior opponent helps them down the road. If not, then I agree with you 100% - let them play a half each.Comment
