Truth is we missed opportunities long ago and far before Stoops got here to be SEC relevant.
tough facts:
We don't produce as many football players in state as the cities of Atlanta or Houston do. We just don't have the people.
NIL for football would have to be massive just to compete with conference schools. A lack of interest for decade a in football has led us to be a one sport school. Having ADs for years that had no interest in any sport not called basketball put us farther back...and the fact the school could make millions in SEC revenue sharing rather than spending money on the team contributed to a dark horse football program.
It's a Difficult situation. Im not sure how Kentucky gets out of it. Maybe meet with Missouri, Vanderbilt amd South Carolina to see their plans

Something everyone needs to consider. Football, even at UK brings in more revenue. This higher revenue allows some of the non-revenue sports to exist. Yet the AD has decided that almost half of the money that comes from revenue sharing for the entire athletics department will go to basketball. Until the university decides to put forth the money to football, it will be lacking.👍 2Comment

I think we are starting to see a shift here, which is why I think it's important to make a change after this year. Christian Academy of Louisville has a number of kids with a ton of major offers. They've got a junior slot receiver that has over 20 offers, including Alabama, Clemson, etc. I grew up with his dad, and the kid is a stud. They also have a D lineman who is top ten in the country for his class, and already holds offers from Georgia and more as a sophomore.Truth is we missed opportunities long ago and far before Stoops got here to be SEC relevant.

In the city of Louisville this year, there's well over a dozen kids who will play D1 football, and I'm not sure about the rest of the state. I know that's nothing compared to other cities, but we are definitely seeing more talent than we ever have.
With Stoops' style of play, we won't get any of those offensive kids and I don't blame them. If we get a new coach who is an offensive mind, we could see some of the benefits that Pope had with Johnson and Moreno, in having home grown talent in your back yard.Comment

You must have been reading Wildcat Lair over at On3. I'm with you 100%It’s curious how often Kentucky’s football failures get laid at the feet of the fans—“didn’t cheer hard enough,” “too negative,” “not supportive.” Backwards. The one thing fans truly control isn’t decibels; it’s leverage.
For roughly seventy years, Kentucky football has been mostly anemic—sporadically decent, sometimes dreadful, with only flashes of real success. Yet the parking lots still fill, the tailgates still smoke, the tickets still scan. Unconditional loyalty erases accountability. When demand is guaranteed, supply has no reason to improve.
Remember the last Joker year. Fans stopped showing up. That single market signal forced Barnhart’s hand. If the seats had stayed full, the Joker Phillips experiment almost certainly would have dragged on. The lesson was plain: UK Athletics values the revenue football generates more than the results it produces. If the money flows regardless, why spend like a program chasing championships?
We keep proving we’ll show up for 6–8 wins, a bowl trip, and a will-o’-the-wisp SEC title dream that never quite materializes—and, too often, we even show up for 2–3 win seasons and just grumble. UKAD reads that as satisfaction and budgets for satisfaction.
This isn’t about cheering louder. It’s about standards. As long as we accept a product that tops out at “respectable,” that’s exactly what we’ll keep getting. Fans aren’t the problem because we’re negative; we’re the problem because we’ve been reliably positive—no matter the output.
If we want UK to take football seriously, the fans have to take football seriously. We do not. Instead, we act like pre-teen cheerleaders and a loud and vocal minority whines at anyone who actually wants a Championship football program.Comment

You know I had seen that, but then read a denial. It's almost like it takes a foia lawsuit to find out.Something everyone needs to consider. Football, even at UK brings in more revenue. AND to be honest half of the projected revenue sharing us less than we were talking about basketball spending on NIL.
Its a total of 22 million for ALL sports, and after all is broken down you get a couple 3 star O linemen and a couple D backs...
If we are talking about buying players and we certainly are the money is going to HAVE to pour in from NIL. Not revenue sharing.....and you're gonna have to convince folk to invest heavy into something you will likely to have to wait 2 to 4 years to get legit return on investment.
Fans screaming for championships won't change economics involved unless those fans have some large dollars to pitch in.👍 2Comment

Agreed. I think a lot of people misunderstand the places money comes from and they hear that info about revenue sharing and get it even more confused. I'm afraid with Stoops we are past the point of having new and more boosters popping up, but a new coach with some excitement could bring them. Look at how much more is pouring in with Pope than was with Cal. That's another problem with football vs basketball. You can flip a basketball program over night with a few players where football takes a few years.

You can't seriously think that a college football program is as black and white as you make it out to be. You act like fans shouldn't show up and support 6-7 win seasons because that's accepting mediocrity. Let's look at the 2023 season. UK went 7-6 and lost to Tennessee by six, USC by three, and Clemson by three. That's less than two touchdowns away from being a ten win season. We shouldn't have been going to those games? Those games that we nearly won?
How exactly do you approach your fandom? By your own theory, you shouldn't be watching or paying attention to games this year. For every view, every tailgate attended, and every click on a website you are showing higher numbers for the program than if you didn't. The numbers don't change if you watch hoping they win or hoping they lose. Shouldn't you stop if you want change? I have a hard time understanding your position because you contradict it so often. If you want people to engage in dialogue (which is the point of a message board) it would be easier if you were consistent in your opinion and approach, or even a bit more clear about your own instead of only offering simple minded "gotcha" moments to others.Comment

I think the bitterness of this is that in this particular game Kentucky lost by one score despite numerous blunders. While I know it's trendy to say Ol Miss isn't all that they were ranked 20th. Kentucky could have eliminated half of its unforced errors and won.
but we didnt.Comment

And we also shouldn't forget that Toledo was receiving votes for the top 25, as well. But, if we want change we shouldn't tune in, care about, talk about, or think about football this year.I think the bitterness of this is that in this particular game Kentucky lost by one score despite numerous blunders.
