Why are so many convinced that Jon Sumrall can be the savior of Kentucky Football?

Yes, being hired at Kentucky is more likely to derail his career than enhance it. It's nearly impossible to win big at Kentucky IN THE SEC with greater challenges in recruiting that results in inferior talent, less talent and less funding and less everything else.

Yes, he could go to another program at another school and do better IN THE SEC and outside of the SEC and have much greater success than at UK.

Kentucky is not the program that is going to take an ambitious football coach to the ultimate goal. Not at this time with these resources in this conference.

Why is that so difficult to comprehend?

If that upsets you, I can't do anything about that. This is the reality of Kentucky Football and the SEC. It's been the reality of Kentucky Football for SEVENTY PLUS YEARS.

I really wish fans like you would just ride off into the sunset and not watch or participate in discussions. Nothing the program does well ever be good enough for you, and you seem to be the only one that doesn't think Sumrall could be successful here. If today was an indication of how Florida's season will go, Sumrall will probably end up there.

He'll have 6 or 7 and, occasionally, 8 wins seasons. He'll go to a few bowl games.

He'd probably pull off a 10 win season or two.

Hell, he might even pull off an 11 win season counting a bowl game.

But that won't be the success that a guy like Sumrall is looking for.

I'm sure Sumrall wants to win a Natty C.

He ain't doin' that at UK.

Unless he switches to Basketball, Volleyball or Cheerleading. lol

You just don't make sense. You've gone from "he comes here and his career dies" to "he'll succeed elsewhere" to "he would have some ten win seasons here." A ten win season in the SEC would get you in the playoffs.

Every coach that has ever coached in the history of coaches wants to win a championship. Not winning one doesn't make them a failure.

And Kentucky can't afford to fire Stoops thanks to Mr. Lifetime Contract/Buy Out Clause.

I think Kentucky misses out on him and he succeeds at some other school putting him out of contention for this job.

And THAT is Kentucky Football in a nutshell.

I’m not buying that they can’t come up with buyout money. If they want him gone bad enough or if this season goes off the rails, they can’t NOT afford to fire him. They’ll lose more in revenue and loss of ticket sales to more than offset the buyout. And conversely, bringing in a fresh face, especially one beloved by the fans, it could pay itself back in new revenues from increased ticket sales and other revenue. So I don’t think money will be the deciding factor. Also there has to be close to a billion or more dollars worth of capital projects going up on that campus right now judging from all the construction cranes and project scopes. So I don’t see money being an issue.

Exactly. We have to have the bowl games and 8-10 win seasons first. Get those consistently and all of a sudden there's more money coming in for facilities, recruiting, etc. Playing in the SEC benefits us because of the money and exposure. Sumrall could come in and have some success based on what he's done at his first two jobs.
