I'm not sure why people keep saying this. The buyout is paid over a number of years. Between the money we saved on the year from Cal to Pope and assuming the next football coach doesn't make a year what Stoops does, the department can pretty easily pay a buyout. Especially when you consider the loss of revenue that will come if we have an awful year and DON'T fire him.

I think Stoops sticks with Calzada for a while unless he gets banged up. They brought him in for a reason and, if they bench him early in the season, it's admitting a pretty big mistake. If Stoops' job was 100% secure, I don't think it would matter. In today's environment, admitting you made a huge mistake on the most critical position is not going to help him keep his job. And, if he does make the change, and Boley >> Calzada, that's compounding the problem. The fans will rightly be screaming, 'Why wasn't Boley starting from the outset if he's obviously this much better than the transfer you brought in?' It will completely reinforce the notion that Stoops isn't the right guy anymore.
Plus, the OC has to do better. I read where we threw 8 passes > 20 yards beyond the LOS last Saturday - out of 23 total throws. That's almost 40% of our passing attempts and, most likely, at least one per series. Does anyone believe that's winning football at UK? Hamdan just has to be better at calling plays we're likely to execute well. Winding up and heaving the ball downfield for an incompletion once every single series seems dumb beyond belief.Comment

Additional information from Google:Buyout (if terminated by UK) If Kentucky terminates his contract without cause, they owe him 75% of his remaining salary. After the 2025 season, this would be approximately $40.5 million. Last edited by Los Gatos; 09-06-2025, 10:42 AM.👍 1Comment

On Stoops I do not. He’s a really well paid head coach. If he’s more worried about out not admitting a mistake than he is concerned with putting the best possible product on the field then…well you get the point. Fans are not totally stupid. Wins or at least good play and effort is what sells and saves people their jobs.Comment

Don't know why we can't throw sone intermediate stuff, but Boley's two long throws on his first drive, though incompletions, looked better than any throw Calzada had up to his departure. Boley has a cannon for an arm. He was close to a TD on that endzone corner toss. A week of Boley preparing to be the starter should produce results next week. Still, the offensive operation has got to be cleaned up.Comment

Eddie Gran is available. I'd prefer him as OC for the balance of the season.👍 2Comment

I know it was very limited action in a very tight situation but I didn't see much from Boley yesterday (and, for the most part, last season) to think he's a significant upgrade. The 4th down play, he had a WR cutting towards the middle who was becoming open and he held the ball instead of letting it go. Took a sack. It doesn't seem like any of the QBs in the Stoops years have been coached to throw to a spot BEFORE the receiver is open, which results in many, many throws being covered as the CB recovers or the ball just being delivered too late for a big gain.
Year after year, we've seen opponents backup QB come in and look like they know what they're doing while ours look like they haven't taken a snap in years. Again - that's coaching or lack thereof. I know Stoops wants to win and, frankly, I don't think he really cares how he does so although he's obviously more comfortable with ball-control, bend-don't-break, TOP, etc. But, it's not working anymore. This knucklehead we have at OC is way over his head and it shows. Until we get a good OC/QB coach, I'm afraid our offense is always going to be a cluster.Comment

I said it in the game thread, but it's highly unlikely a change at QB will have any significant positive results. The issues are more widespread than that and not nearly so simple.
If we make a change for a significant amount of time, those same fans will start asking why we can't get a talented QB when they see that nothing changes.
Simply changing QBs won't make any difference.👍 2Comment

So, how long before Stoops changes QB and let’s develop Cutter. I’ve seen enough of our 3* from a team I have never heard of. Sorry, but he didn’t play like he has experience. I am almost at the point where I hope we lose so Barnyard will have to make a coaching change. I expect Ole Miss to put 8 in the box and completely shut the one dimensional offense down.👍 1Comment
