    Real quick recap

    Glad for a win.
I know this team is pocked to win the MAC....but that is the MAC. I didn't see anything to make me comfortable in the SEC.
We saw three quarters of stellar defense. Then a quarter of what's going on.
we saw one quarter maybe total of good, not great, offense. The rest was not much to just bad.

Not sure B Hamdan is the answer.
No sacks allowed. I think that's the first time in years I've said that.

Special teams play was pretty solid. Both kickers good, no snaps sailing overhead.

    Overall:
I was hoping for better, but at least it wasn't horrid.

    The safety was a sack.

But I thought a sack could only be scored on pass play. Looked like a tackle behind the line on run play to me.

Almost 1 day later and I am not at ease with the team. Our O-Line was better than last year (at this time) but not the BIG BLUE WALL by any means. Our defense front is very twitchy but smaller. We have all seen smaller defenses beat good SEC teams in a 1 game scenario. Can our front 7 stay healthy for 8 SEC games and 1 power 4 game? That will be the biggest question. Starting End is down with a Sprain Ankle right now.

Once we build a lead we need to turn up the defense not back off.

As far as offense, it is a Stoops offense. Nothing will ever change. Get ready for tons of run next week and we will not get 200+ yards. We are looking at rough game next week. If we see the most advancement in play from week 1 to week 2, so does Ole Miss. They played lesser competition I think but played way better.

I expect the worse but will hope for the best. GO BIG BLUE!

Overall, the talent seems better but the coaching isn't (how could it be with virtually the staff). I'm afraid we're in for a rocky ride.

Don’t believe a sack has anything to do with whether a run or a pass was intended. In the end they’re all recorded as negative rushing yards by the QB. Can be a designed QB draw play and if he doesn’t make it back to the line of scrimmage it’s a sack.

I believe you're correct. But, Yahoo Sports stats had UK giving up zero sacks. So, I don't know if that's official or not.

And I’ve read the same elsewhere.

Given that you intentionally leave one edge unblocked, and it all comes down to the QB’s read, it seems unfair to call it a sack.

And as others have said, it was a very questionable play call. Calzada might have been thinking the same, helping cloud his decision making.

When you have a clear advantage on your O-line, and have a reasonable hope of getting a good push, why place your QB several yards deep in the end zone and risk (1) a bad snap, (2) a poor read by the QB, leading to a safety, (3) a tackle of your back for a loss (safety) or (4) an edge player who knows how to attack the mesh point causing a fumble?

But I don’t make the big bucks making these calls, and that’s probably for the best.

Has to be a simple oversight. Yahoo/ESPN and any other source surely were reporting from the official scorers book. Too much going on in football for the official scorer to be one person. But one person responsible for scoring that aspect of that game likely checked a box for safety, another for TFL and failed to check one for sack.

I personally don’t see it as unfair. If the QB is brought down behind the line it’s a sack but that never really tells the story of who was at fault. More often an OL’s fault than the QB’s.
