    Some observations

    1. Defense played well for 3 quarters and then, as usual, let the opponent drive and drive and drive to stay within striking distance. I blame White for that.
    2. D will get exposed in SEC play. Too small (inside LBs are 220 and 225 or so), 34 without the right personnel is not going to stop the run. DBs only jumped one route all game and got the INT. Afari played awesome.
3.OL was better than last year. Surprised we didn't see Wilcox or Patterson. Running game was solid, not spectacular minus the one long run.
    3. Passing game was bad. Finally used the TEs and both looked good. Where was Maclin? Threw only one time to him as far as I can recall. WRs as a group did NOT impress.
    4. OC is not nearly good enough. Poor play calling. Please, for the love of all that is holy, ditch the jet sweep. Throw no more than one bomb a quarter since we never complete them. Design a different short yardage play- just one.
    5. Calzada did not impress. Has a good arm but made the wrong throw too often. Maybe that's on him, maybe on the OC. Some horrible reads on RPO plays - safety!!
    6. Kicking game looked good. Glad to see Bryant run up to catch the last few punts after letting one bounce and cost us 15+ yards.
    7. If vast improvement doesn't occur, we're in for a very long season.
    8. Played very clean for most part. Burton exceeded expectations at C. Still not sold on OTs being able to compete in SEC.
    9. No obvious coaching blunders.

Came out after the game Wilcox was suspended. Stoops said violation of team rules, would have more to say next week. LHL says he has a court date next week on domestic charges. I'd say no more Shoelaces in blue.

No obvious coaching blunders? There were several blunders especially the shotgun QB with rpo in the end zone that got sacked for a safety. Play calling on offense was atrocious.

Running the Pistol with your QB standing in the end zone instead of having him under center is coaching idiocy — ZERO situational awareness. In those situations, I love the old fullback dive. Have QB under center, and just turn and hand the ball off for a quick hitter into the line.

          Yes. Use a full back.

Also, once on a 3rd or 4th and one yard, the defense lined up without a nose, with a lane straight ahead of the center and QB. Easy money, right?

Well, on this particular play, Calzada handed to a back who hit exactly the same “hole” and it worked. But as we saw on a TD and at least two other plays, he is hard to stop for very short yardage.

Please see #4 for me calling out Hamdan for 'coaching blunders'. My comment was more regarding clock management, not having the correct # of players on the field, having to call a timeout because we couldn't get a play called, etc. Obviously, Hamdan is not the answer and several offensive plays that were called today were, indeed, blunders. I was referencing OTHER blunders. My bad.

I think we are better on both O&D !ines.I also think we have a very solid kicking game. Our QB play was sub par. Our receivers were lack luster.. Overall our defense was stellar. If they can keep games relatively low scoring we will be competative . Finally I wish Stoops had given Boley a few snaps, I think we are going to need him at some point this season. He won't get any next week and if he doesn't get any in week 3 ,he will not get to play for some time barring injury.

Ole Miss put up 63 yesterday. Anyone believe the defense can hold Ole Miss down enough for this anemic offense to beat them?

Just things I noticed post game were the radio crew being unusually subdued after a win and coming back repeatedly to lack of a passing attack and general offensive lack of production. Another was Stoops in his post game. .clips I saw gave me indication he was more concerned than he let on with the offense. I truly believe he expected... better? More?

I think everyone was expecting a better offensive showing. I expected a concerted effort to run the ball from the start, and some play action off that. Situational awareness, a feel for down and distance, still feel like issues with the offensive play calling after an entire off season to prepare to play the first game. The offensive line didn’t allow a sack and they still couldn’t pass the ball reliably. It’s concerning.

I, too, noticed (or I just don't remember) that we didn't seem to run any PA plays. Several RPO looks but the fake handoff to freeze the LBs? I don't recall any play like that. With WRs struggling to create separation and seemingly pretty decent TEs, wouldn't PA be an obvious strategy? Of course, that would require an OC who recognizes what's happening on the field and making adjustments.

You hit the nail on the head, pointing out the lack of situational awareness, down and distance, etc. Just once I'd like to feel like a play was set up previously, but I've yet to see any semblance of that or, honestly, any logical thread in our play calling.

I am just guessing that Hamdan has scripted the plays and is staying with that script regardless of situation. Which is disaster in almost any situation.
