Another site's 'hot take': Brad White to move on after this season

Certainly, if the team is bad and Stoops retires/gets bought out, White would move on. But, the site thought Stoops would last into next year, but White would move on to 'greener' pastures. Somewhat flirted with FSU this offseason, but, for the most part, haven't heard many rumors about him looking to leave. I think he's probably well-regarded in coaching circles, but UK is paying him pretty well, if I'm not mistaken. Anyone know of close relationships with other HCs that might bring him on? Haven't heard anything ever about the NFL looking at him, but who knows?

Is this site one like WCN where someone is stating their opinion or one like KSR which has paid reporters on staff who might actually be in a position to know what they're talking about?

^I'm actually not totally sure. I stumbled across it and it had a subscription option,so I'd guess it's got real reporters, but that's a guess.

I mean, if Stoops is a short-timer as most are speculating, it makes sense. White has done all he can at UK and won't necessarily improve his resume by staying 5 more years, I'd guess.

But it could just be a fan's wild guess/opinion.

His leaving wouldn't surprise me either. Unless he thinks Stoops is a short timer (this season and/or one more) and he wants and believes he would be the next HC then there's no reason to stay if he can land something comparable with job security.

I go back and forth with White. Statistically, he has put good defenses on the field for UK - not outstanding but generally as good or better than average and better than our final record in the SEC as a team. But, there seems to be stretches every single game where we are in the wrong place at the wrong time, we can't get off the field on 3rd down, we underperform most years in creating turnovers, horrible execution at the end of the half and first drive or two out of the 3rd quarter, play very passively to open nearly every single game which results in being down on the scoreboard all too often, etc.

The ongoing discussion has always been: is this Stoops dictating our scheme or is this White's bend-don't-break philosophy that has bitten us in the butt so many times for yet another heartbreaking defeat? As Bill stated above, we don't seem to be able to consistently play above our talent level. Sometimes, superior coaching can accomplish that, but, in White's tenure, I'm not sure we've seen that (it's debatable, of course; statistically, we are usually a competitive defense but it sure feels worse at times). One stat that gets thrown about is 'points allowed' and that is a very important stat. But, if ppg allowed to 'real' opponents dwarf the OOC teams, then that stat can be misleading. Also, if we give up 2 or 3 third down conversions but force a punt, the defense ppg looks good, but our generally anemic offense must now drive 25+ yards longer for it to score any points, which may be a factor in how bad our offensive numbers tend to look. And let's not forget the one or two plays seemingly every game where the defense is completely out of position, wrong personnel, leaving a WR wide open, only 10 men on the field, etc.

We might really miss White if/when he moves on. We may not, though. I'll be interested to see how the defense performs this year and if White has tweaked his scheme to fit the personnel we have this year: more 43 looks, passing situation personnel group, creative blitzes, allowing DL to penetrate and disrupt plays vs hold their blocker, more man coverage, etc.

Who are these real reporters on WCN?

I've been hanging around this site for two decades and have never met a "real" reporter here.


For that matter, I've known Matt Jones for just shy of two decades and I don't know of a single "real" reporter on KSR. KSR is a homer site. Not a single "real" reporter there.

I think White should have taken a position a few years ago. Loyalty to Stoops hasn't paid off for Brad. Just my opinion.

The problem with Kentucky football is always a lack of talent.

That could be overcome with superior conditioning. Unfortunately, Kentucky football coaches have never been intelligent enough to catch on to that bit of voodoo.

Stoops mailed it in last year. With his family issues, I really can't blame him. I think he should have taken a sabbatical last year. That's just my opinion.

This year, I hope he throws himself into it.

Regardless, Kentucky football isn't going to win any prizes because Stoops isn't all that imaginative. He thinks that "smash mouth" football is the way to go in the SEC. Well, it is. If you have the depth of talent. Kentucky does not.

Brooks and Stoops were good enough coaches to make the Play off. Just not at Kentucky. You can't get the same talent at Kentucky as you can at Alabama or Georgia, LSU and Florida.

At Kentucky, you have to think outside of the box. Stoops doesn't think outside of the box.

Firmly believe the ceiling at UK this season is five wins. Realistically, I see a 3 win season.

Worst case scenario is two wins with Toledo taking one from Stoops because Stoops, again, can't think outside of the box.

I hope I'm wrong.
