So I may post more on the football boards in general, I'll still be an the basketball boards as well rooting for them too.
    Agreed.

    The football/basketball bickering is pointless.

I wouldn't say we're back at square one. This team is far and away more talented than Joker's last couple of seasons or Stoops first couple of seasons. I consider Stoops first season square one. But with the portal now, If and When Stoops leaves, there's likely a huge exodus of talent that transfers out. So it will be up to whoever takes over to use that portal to keep our foundation strong.

If they go 3-9 this year, it's back to square 1. Not much difference, record-wise. How much talent do we have now? I guess we'll know when it gets teed up here in a little over a month. Hoping the portal was good to us. All going to depend on the offensive line and QB play.

Schlarman was a great coach and his players loved him. One difference between now and then is Schlarman used to sub players to keep them fresh and build experience.

I'm hoping he's laying low with a chip on his shoulder to prove everybody wrong about him. That's best case. but we are still a few weeks away from practices starting, so we just don't have much to work with yet.

A common misconception from prior contracts. His Mega-deal now requires nine (9) wins for that automatic extension to apply.

And, frankly, I hope he hits the mark (yes, extremely unlikely).

If he can pull 7 or 8 wins, he might lure a serious look from Iowa, where I think he is destined to finish his career. Prior to his 4-8 season last year, there was at least one lengthy thread on a Hawkeye forum and while not wildly enthusiastic, a lot of Iowa folk have noticed Stoops got Kentucky to 10 wins: a rare feat.

Yes, Iowa has a Coach . . . who was an assistant when Mark Stoops played there. He’s long in the tooth!!

Thanks Hack...I was definitely unaware of the 9 win automatic extension. Yes Iowa has been the program I have heard most often connected to Coach Stoops.

As far as 'football only' i think the last few years of the Calipari run soured me on the basketball forums. Im not an NBA fan so i dont really keep up with a lot of that end of the game. I felt Calipari openly ran a farm team....and while this is now obvious, coach Pope at least seems to acknowledge this level is a lot more about team and program than individual.

Whenever the topic of Stoops' buyout comes up, one of my season ticket buddies always says that since we had to vacate wins due to the payroll record keeping business, we should be able to knock a year off the contract since he now officially didnt hit that threshold in 2021.

It's a Stoops offense so I expect it to not excel. It will have its moments but will let us down n key moments. It should hopefully be an improvement on last season though.
