I will predict 2800 yards passing, not sure the QB, 10TD to 10 Int, 800 yard rusher (not sure), 17ppg. Sorry to vague but cannot be sure who will be playing until middle or late fall camp. I think we are about the same as last year. Stoops will not leave the offense alone. He wants to be a top 5 defense and if we open the offense that will never happen.

I don't know how we can make any predictions about this offense.

Is there a roster that you can remember that you know as little about as this one?

We know virtually nothing about what this offense is gonna do. Would really like to get some practice reports about the new OL before trying to form any expectations.

For sure total guessing game at this point.

I'm gonna go with assuming Calzada will be the starter. I don't think he came here expecting anything less so we will see. I expect a tight battle between him and Boley though. our season will hinge on how well the revamped OL performs as a unit and Whoever shows up to play QB. I think if we have a line that can block and create gaps, our run game will be successful and open up some passing lanes. Calzada is a guy who's not afraid to tuck and run. A bit like Levis in that respect. if he can avoid the INT's better than Levis, then we might be able to field a solid offense.

While I assume Calzada to be the starter, I do hope that Boley can see the field enough to establish himself as the QB of the future. I do want to at least have one QB in this decade that was homegrown and not a transfer. But who knows what's going to happen after this season if Stoops is gone the roster is going to have some massive turnover.

Too many question marks for or me to predict anything. The fact that Burton is still projected as an o line starter is not encouraging, to me at least. O Coordinator has alot to prove this year. On defensive side of ball it's about the line, as always. I have no idea how they will perform. Hoping for the best but with this schedule 6-6 is about the limit

The radio silence from the football camp is concerning to me.

There's "moving in silence" and then there's whatever is going on right now. Usually Stoops and his guys are making the media rounds, pumping their chests if they think they've got a competitor. Unless I've missed something, this has been one of the most silent off-seasons I can remember.

Perhaps he thinks that no matter what he says, people are going to be angry. He wouldn't be wrong.

Both lines of scrimmage will determine the trajectory of this season. It wouldn't have mattered if Brock or Leary either one were all-pro candidates in the NFL. You can't throw it with guys in your face or running for your life on seemingly every possession. If they can get some protection I think they'll be OK. Anything 6 wins or better is gravy with this schedule. We will see.

I'd be happy as a clam with six wins. I'm expecting three or four at this point.

I remember one hush-hush off-season under Curry. If memory serves, many believed the offense was being retooled, though no one to my knowledge knew what to expect and the coaches weren't talking.

When the I-BONE was unveiled for the first snap of the season "whatever is going on right now" was confirmed. And I was left a little... confused.

There’s more question marks than we’ve had in some time, so it’s hard to make any solid guesses. Breaking it down by position:

The o-line is mostly new, and although it seems hard for them to be worse than last year, we don’t yet have a feel for how much better they might be. They probably need to be significantly better for the other positions to even matter too much.

Calzada is almost certainly the starting QB as I doubt he would have transferred to ride the bench for his last season. He’s a huge wildcard because he hasn’t been seen at the FBS level in 4 years. How much of his improvement at Incarnate Word was actual progression from him and how much was level of competition is really tough to unravel, but we need him to be legitimately better. That 56% completion rate and negative rushing yards he put up in the one season he got significant reps at A&M would almost certainly lead to a poor season with our small margin for error this year.

Wilcox at running back should be our most proven returning playmaker, but he also clearly had maturity issues last year that led to the staff not trusting him. Has he worked on that, or is he still going to be more of a what might have been player?

We’re hoping for addition by subtraction at receiver since Brown and Key were frequently rumored to be locker room cancer, but they were also undeniably the majority of our (admittedly poor) passing production last year. Will anybody out of a completely unproven group step up?

Unfortunately, that’s just too many questions for me. I’d love to be surprised and get a best scenario across the board that leads us to winning several games this year, but realistically, I’m expecting another season of struggling to score in conference games and a record that reflects that.

Have to think there's some truth to Stoops laying low at this point. Either he doesn't want to field all the questions about his being on the hot seat, or he doesn't want to overly raise expectations. I'm hoping he's laying low with a chip on his shoulder to prove everybody wrong about him. That's best case. but we are still a few weeks away from practices starting, so we just don't have much to work with yet.

Hence this stupid "Motivated Mark Stoops" meme that social media is running with.

It's funny you mention him being on the hot seat; I'm not sure that Mitch can afford to fire him even if he goes 1-11. I'm sure he would leave on his own accord if the worst happened, but Stoops' agent really fleeced Mitch on his most recent contract extension. Which should surprise nobody.

His seat being hot has nothing to do with his buyout clause. Even though the buyout is huge, it's less after this season and from a business and marketing standpoint, shelling out for the buyout is probably more economical than keeping him around to coach in an empty stadium. With the new LLC venture the Athletic Dept is converting to, they can't afford to keep him around if he tanks this year.

My hope is hopefully like everyone else's. That Stoops does enough to at least get us to a bowl game and somebody out there decides to take a flyer on him. Even if a lateral or slightly lower type move and he leaves on his own accord just as Tubby Smith and Cal both did and we can get the John Sumrall era kicked off.

I think of "hot seat" in terms of getting fired. Clearly his seat is hot, based on performance. How big is the buyout after this season?

Speaking of which, have you heard anything about the season ticket sales? I have not, but I can't imagine that it's looking all rosy over there.
