Media pick Cats to finish sixth in SEC East

Kentucky was picked to finish sixth in the Southeastern Conference Eastern Division, according to a media vote at SEC Media Days this week, ahead of only Vanderbilt. The Cats did pick up one first-place vote.
The predicted order of finish for the SEC East was Georgia, Tennessee, Missouri, South Carolina, Florida, UK and Vanderbilt.

I think I would pick the cats over Florida this year. They have some talent there still but it's definitely been in decline. And then with the coaching overhaul, it will just take some time for them to get back. Not long though with the instate talent they have. It also helps that you get them at home this year. And then there is SC and Miz. I think both of those are just really hard to get a read on until we see them. With SC there isn't much that says they should be a lot better than last year, but there isn't much that said they should have been that bad last year either. And Miz just doesn't get love from anyone lol. If you ask me though, it was the elite talent they had rushing the passer that kept them in games the past couple years. They may have that again but it seems unlikely that three years in a row they can have two new elite ends step up. Matty will still be a bonehead. He needs his defense to keep it close so he can be the hero in the fourth. If the cats can pull a 3rd or even 4th place in the East this year, it would definitely help people see that Stoops is on the right track

really good slant on things brother vol....the media USUALLY looks at the way last season or two ends and extrapolates....which is a pretty fair way of doing things, I suppose.
Steve Spurrier...love im or hate im...made one of his usual points....Tennessee and Arkansas won the same number of games SCjr won and had a party. South Carolina watchers were wondering how the wheels came off.
I THINK....that as usual Alabama and Georgia will be the cream of the SEC...as far as attention. The program at Missou has to make it's backers chuckle.....back to back winners of the East and picked no better than third by anyone.
Florida and Tennessee are big questions. Catching Florida early in the season could give teams a true shot at em. Auburn ...... dunno. New DC ( but a mighty fine one) and loads of talent.
LSU is scary good. Arkansas COULD have well had two more wins last year....which would have put them into the scary good category.
Back to UT....still young, and that youth makes em a little thin. The linemen were supermen last year and also mighty lucky to avoid the injury jinx.

I really think at the end of the day UK has a legit shot at third in the East...maybe even second. I don't see a monster Georgia team, but I see a mighty good one. Missou actually took some heavy hits in graduation. I didn't see SC bringing a ton of 'better' talent in. Tennessee has that depth and youth issue. Florida kids will have to get used to new schemes and new coaches.
Vandy... unless they pull a James Franklin, I just don't see them being much better.
This may have to be the year the Cats start their move. Better talent, three years with the HC, an OC that has done good work at other places, three years for the DC to get his system like he wants.
          If it ain't this year.......well.....
          I hope its this year.

It's hard to predict how any season will play out, but UK will be better, we just don't know it UK's "better" is good enough. Can't wait to see how good these Cats are.

Agreed on UT, Bill. Still a little young and a little thin. If the OL can improve to just average and the injury bug stays away from the thin spots then I think it's time to look out. There is plenty of experienced talent in the starting 22. And most places will have room for good rotation. It's just those thin spots Mostly OL and maybe MLB.. And it would be great if we could get through the season without just about every receiver getting a high ankle sprain or two along the way lol! UK just has to come out strong! Weeks 2-4 will set the tone. Although the schedule is tough on the back end again, I don't see them tanking like last year. That was more the grind and hype of a long season that started really strong IMO. The players and coaches should be ready to handle it if they find themselves in that position this year

Brother_Vol, I'm having format troubles too. Keep posting. I agree that UK will be better than the media thinks. We just have to correct their image of us. They have published the same lists for many years. I agree with F Maggard they just cut-n-paste last year's articles. return_return If we can get our rankings up to just below Tennessee and Georgia, then we might get so we sneak up on them from time to time. We're obviously getting better talent. They just have to get a little older and a little more-experienced. THEN we have to watch these coaches and decide if they can coach. If so…this can be very special someday.

If you'd like, you can go ahead and sneak up on UGA this year. I promise I wouldn't mind a bit!

No problem, at least you're putting periods at the end of your sentences. I'm sure some of the older members know what I;m referring to.

That's because of our Volguard software.

FWIW, this is the way I see it: UGa., UT, So. Car., UF, UK, Missouri and Vandy.

Someone felt the need to give us a first place vote. I wont go that far but I have a good feeling about this year. I'm not saying we are winning the East, but we will go to a bowl. We just need a respectable defense that can snuff out the run.
