A great video I nebver knew existed. I remember that season quite well. I remember the heartbreak that my Dad, Grandpa, and myself had listening to the Florida game on the radio while they were renovating my Great Grandmas house over on Bluegrass Avenue in Louisville. I also remember the elation of that Tennessee win and the Hall of Fame Bowl win over Wisconsin. It sure would be nice to have a similar season this year. The pieces are falling in to place. I have hope!

The encore in 1985 was unsatisfying for everyone, unfortunately.
With a win in their second bowl game in two years under Claiborne, the program could've really been on an upswing going into that 1985 season. UK won four of its first five to open the 1985 season, with wins against Clemson, Mississippi State, Cincinnati and Tulane, but unfortunately the opener was scheduled against Bowling Green, which won 30-26 on its way to an undefeated regular season. That was a real momentum killer. If that 9-3 1984 team had begun the 1985 season 5-0, another bowl would've been in the works, and fan interest would've remained high. UK won 5 in 1985; that opener should've been #6. UK also lost at LSU 10-0 and at Florida 15-13, and at Vanderbilt by a TD; a more confident team, or a 5-0 team making that trip to LSU, might've had different outcomes. Clemson went bowling that year, and UK beat them. Florida was 9-1-1 and Kentucky played them closer than Miami, LSU, Tennessee, Auburn, Florida State or Virginia Tech.
The 1985 squad was a pretty good one, but that opener killed the season.Comment

Good post Blue!!!! Bill Ransdell remains one of my favorite Cats of all time. Dude was tough as nails. After the '76 and '77 teams, I think the '84 team was one of the more talented and successful teams we've had in the last 40 years.Comment
