I'm a realist about out football program, which is... a football program.
I think you're being a bit harsh though. This team hasn't been great but it also didn't have the 3 cupcakes plus Louisville. In a normal year we'd have a real shot at 8-4, even as mediocre as this team has looked.

I've seen JFCats go negative when Kentucky wins basketball games by 25.

He probably sawzalled apart his house after that debacle Saturday.

I made the point to Old School that if you have to have cupcake wins and the Louisville game to pad your overall record, then it's sort of a mirage.

This season has provided us all with a unique opportunity to see just how Kentucky really stacks up against its SEC brethren and, predictably, the results aren't great.

Without those cupcakes UK would never win more than 3-4 games a year. We've had one winning SEC record in the last 30 years - even in our better years a 4 win SEC record is an accomplishment. We have an opportunity to get to 4 at South Carolina (and technically next weekend I guess but that's probably not happening).

This team has been disappointing and has not gelled, but it's not far off where it would be in a normal year.

Which is why, even with what Stoops has been able to achieve, we're exactly what we are: an average football program with a low ceiling. Some people think that I'm being negative when I say that. It's just an unfortunate fact.

It is what it is, and I'm at peace with it.

4-4 or 5-3 and being in the top of the best league in America is a tremendous accomplishment for a school where football has been secondary and has no real recruiting base.

I've said before trying to be in the top half of the league is the attainable goal and would be a sign of *Borat voice* great success. It's so far above the mean of UK football.

Sure, which is why Stoops should be lauded for his achievements here.

It doesn't change the fact that, even at our best, we remain a thoroughly average football program.

I guess it all depends on how you look at it.
