I don't even think we can declare coach Stoops fantastic and effective unless he has a loaded team to work with.

Who built that "loaded team"? What SEC coach is fantastic without a "loaded" team? What would a coach have to do to be considered "fantastic" here?

I'm always willing to give credit where credit is due. Yes, coach Stoops and his staff have done an outstanding job of recruiting talented players. This is just my opinion, of course, without any way of proving it, but I'd say Saban, Kirby Smart and Ed Orgeron would all have a better record with this team than 3-3.

Even if that were true of those three, and I’m not sure it is, that doesn’t make CMS and company less fantastic.

Why would we we ever expect a mythical “fantastic” coach to come here given how thankless and unreasonable our fan base can be?

Im not pointing that only at you, but I truly don’t get the begrudging attitude displayed towards our staff after all of the AMAZING things they accomplish.

I think we have an exceptional coaching staff. I know Gran has caught a lot of flack. To put together an effective offense and game plan in two weeks around a new starting QB who hasn't played that position since high school is exceptional. Our defense has improved every game as youngsters get more experience. Our second and third string QB's transferred. They haven't exactly set the world on fire, yet. We held our breath when we got Sawyer, and then he got banged up in the Florida game. So who can we go to other than a young man who has had two shoulder surgeries. I didn't think he had the zip on the ball in the spring game that he's had in the past. I don't know enough of what he's dealing with but I do know he would be in there if he could throw the ball as well as he could when he was a freshman. What permanent damage could be done if he gets hit hard again? I don't know. Another freshman QB from Florida who is definitely a "gamer" is recovering from surgery. The kicker who showed such promise going into this year contracted the "yipes" missing a couple-three field goals that could have won at least one more game. I seriously doubt Saba, Smart, or Oregon could have made the kind of adjustments win a game that we saw Saturday. I could be wrong, of course. Saban didn't exactly overwhelm anything the last time he played Clemson. Smart got it handed to him in South Carolina. I'm going to enjoy what I saw at least until we take the field against an embarrassed Georgia team with something to prove.

In my opinion, a fantastic coach, at UK, would be one who, once having established the program, maintains or exceeds eight regular season wins each and every season. Coach Stoops' teams have went 2,5,5,7,7, and 9 in his tenure so far. I think it's safe to say we won't win eight regular season games this season. My biggest complaint with coach Stoops and his staff is that many times they don't seem to have the team emotionally ready to play and I feel that causes us to lose some games we should win.

I will go to my grave believing that our fan base ran off Rich Brooks.

I agree with this assessment. When I think of how lethargic we played under Joker and the vast difference when CS got here, the effort wasn't even close. Now for some reason we can't seem to be ready to play when the game starts. I think it has nothing to do with talent, we have more, but it's a mental issue and that rests with the Coaches. IMO.

Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

Correct. Coach Brooks never came here intending to be the coach long term. He came as a favor to his friend, Mitch Barnhart, to get the program on solid footing and do it the right way, and that's what he did.

Kentucky seems to sit back and counter punch, then try to outlast the opponent. Its worked well enough. However, this particular crew seems by and large to be not ready for prime time players. Focus? Discipline? Conditioning?
your pick. truth is there seemed to be a drastic lack of concern by most of the players until the 2nd quarter of the Arkansas game.
then it was like someone flipped a switch.
That's either just bizarre or coaching.

At one time he said he wanted to be the longest tenured coach at UK.. Late in October of his last season after a loss someone called in to his radio show and raked him over the coals. His response was " you sound like a good coach, maybe you should apply for the job when they run me off."

I'm convinced that some of our "fans" wouldn't be happy if we won the national championship.
