Can someone explain to me how a defender is basically in the tackling motion and the QB decides to slide and gets hit above the shoulders and they call a late hit and targetting? I can understand when this seems purposeful but I don't understand how the call was made today.

QB sliding should be disallowed. We got another BS flag at the end of the game when a OB ducked into helmet to helmet. Garbage rules.Originally posted by John Stuart MillHe who knows only his own side of the case knows little of that... He must be able to hear them from persons who actually believe them...he must know them in their most plausible and persuasive form.Originally posted by Robert “Hoot†GibsonNo matter how bad things may seem, you can always make them worse.👍 2Comment

The targeting rule is the single biggest crap rule in the college game. Not only do the bbn officials on tje field blow the call, but the turd in the reviw booth crapped on Kentucky as well.
It is a bad thing to give the officals that much bnn power to randomly kick a player out of a game and paet of the next, especially when they make such an incorrect judgement
i never hear of any of them being changed and elligibilty being restored In my opinion, the officials should be put in a one game suspension amdbpublically called out .
Then there was the face mask late in the game that did not happen The officials suck and should not be allowed to cash their paychecks Very sadComment

OK, one game down and already we have a discussion about poor officiating and a rule the officials must abide by. I agree our tackler was put in a no-win situation on the targeting play, but we can slice and dice the rule all we want, but by rule it was the correct call. And, until the rule is changed we might as well get used to it because it was put in to protect the players and cut down on concussions. Which happened on that play.
Here is the rule as written in the NCAA Football Rule Book.
Targeting and Making Forcible Contact With the Crown of the Helmet ARTICLE 3. No player shall target and make forcible contact against an opponent with the crown of his helmet. This foul requires that there be at least one indicator of targeting (See Note 1 below). When in question, it is a foul. (Rule 9-6) (A.R. 9-1-3-I)
Targeting and Making Forcible Contact to Head or Neck Area of a Defenseless Player ARTICLE 4. No player shall target and make forcible contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent (See Note 2 below) with the helmet, forearm, hand, fist, elbow or shoulder. This foul requires that there be at least one indicator of targeting (See Note 1 below). When in question, it is a foul (Rules 2-27-14 and 9-6). (A.R. 9-1-4-I-VI)
Note 1: “Targeting†means that a player takes aim at an opponent for purposes of attacking with forcible contact that goes beyond making a legal tackle or a legal block or playing the ball. Some indicators of targeting include but are not limited to:
• Launch—a player leaving his feet to attack an opponent by an upward and forward thrust of the body to make forcible contact in the head or neck area
• A crouch followed by an upward and forward thrust to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area, even though one or both feet are still on the ground
• Leading with helmet, shoulder, forearm, fist, hand or elbow to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area • Lowering the head before attacking by initiating forcible contact with the crown of the helmet
Note 2: Defenseless player (Rule 2-27-14). When in question, a player is defenseless. Examples of defenseless players include but are not limited to:
• A player in the act of or just after throwing a pass.
• A receiver attempting to catch a forward pass or in position to receive a backward pass, or one who has completed a catch and has not had time to protect himself or has not clearly become a ball carrier.
• A kicker in the act of or just after kicking a ball, or during the kick or the return.
• A kick returner attempting to catch or recover a kick, or one who has completed a catch or recovery and has not had time to protect himself or has not clearly become a ball carrier..
• A player on the ground.
• A player obviously out of the play.
• A player who receives a blind-side block.
• A ball carrier already in the grasp of an opponent and whose forward progress has been stopped.
• A quarterback any time after a change of possession
• A ball carrier who has obviously given himself up and is sliding feetfirst.

It was a crap call the QB initiated the angle of the hit, not the defensive player . Once a defender launches, he cant change course Star D players are getting penalized, and teams are getting handicapped, because officials have no common sense Sure, there are plays that are targeting. There are also plays where the O player caused the angle .
That same crew made up a call, because a player lost his lid. gotta call something I didnt see anything, guess I will go with a face mask call
There is no defense for that kind of behavior.
I think they should quadriple their training, especially the turd who looks at the replay.Last edited by Lighthouse; 09-01-2019, 09:37 PM.👍 1Comment

John, you can show all the video you want, but the fact remains there was helmet to helmet contact and although our player was put in a no win situation, it was called correctly on the field and reviewed. By Rule, they called it right.John 3:3

I think it's valid, but only because the QB was, in fact, concussed. The replay official should check with the sideline, "is he in concussion protocol and you guarantee he won't play? Yes? Targeting. No? QB is a dumb bunny and deserved it."Comment

The refs are too stupid to see that the QB caused his own injury. The D player was hitting him low, to not get a penalty. This reminds me of politics, when there is no evidence, they still scream for impeachment. Those idiot refs don't care about right and wrong. They want to turn the college game into flag football. The ones who should be suspended are the refs for being idiots.Comment

I sure thought the replay would overturn the call. Oats didn't launch or thrust or lead with his helmet. You can't stop in mid air. It's impossible. I understand the rule Steve. The call was right in the moment. The replay wasn't. So it stood because the guy lost his helmet? That's not how the rule is written up.Isaiah 5:20Comment

And that "facemask" call was equally bad. I understand UK vs Toledo don't receive any of the top crews. I also understand the plays are so bang bang. Calls are going to be wrong from time to time. Even at full speed from the comfort of my couch it was painfully obvious that was no facemask.Isaiah 5:20Comment
