Terry Wilson was ranked 12th in the SEC among quarterbacks. You can't blame anyone behind him for transferring.

True. But although the passing game was far from the strength of the team last year--defense and running the ball was--you can't really blame a coach for sticking with a QB who took you to your best season in 4 decades. My hope is that the payoff is this coming season. Tua's are pretty darn rare. Most QB's get better with experience. Comfort level increases and as they say "the game slows down for them." 10 wins may be hard to come by but the passing game may be more of a strength as we recover from significant losses at RB and all over the defense.

You mean if he’s #12 then they aren’t good enough to play at all?

If the Cats want to keep this rolling then we have to produce at least a respectable passing game. We didn't need Terry to chuck it all over the field last season. If the Blue White game is any indication then we are going to open it up more this year. When you have a guy like Bowden you kind of have to. We have some good young receivers with some size and speed to make it happen. Many forget that Gran and Hinshaws offenses were prolific at UC. They didn't forget how to move the ball. But the SEC is a much different animal. I think Terry steps it up this year. Even though he only passed for 1800 last year, there were throws that if he didn't make them, then we wouldn't have seen 10 wins last year. Florida and Mizzou come to mind.

Call me crazy, but I don't think we will see that much, if any, of a drop off in the running game.

Me neither Matt. If anything, we will see more speed there. As good as Benny was, he wasn't a home run hitter. Rose is fast and so is Smoke. I would like to see more passes to our RBs. That's why I loved Anthony White so much. He was such an underrated RB. I loved that guy.

Small sample size but I like the looks of Rodriguez. Looks like he runs mad at the world. But I'd love to see a balanced attack.

I think we have three capable SEC caliber running backs in A.J., Smoke and Rodriguez. I also expect to see a more balance off. this season. If they had not used Benny the way they did, and it had backfired, coaches Stoops, Gran and Hinshaw would have been ridden out of town on rails.

The passing game serves one purpose, to make safeties stay out of the box. When they get in, over the top. Steven was really good at that. Wilson had to get better at that deep throw, and the spring game showed he has.

I agree. The strength of the offense the past three years has been the line .it all starts there. BUT for whatever reason our line has been less outstanding pass blocking. I expect that to continue.
on the other hand even the loss of Josh Allen is going to be offset a bit by the talent and depth of the front 7.....and I truly believe that will make the new secondary look better than we anticipate. if I recall until last season our secondary seemed a sieve....largely because not only did they have to come in run support, but also because the other teams quarterback seemed to get five to six seconds in the pocket.

Of course, I may be whistling in a graveyard as well
