Today I Remembered Why I Stopped my Subscription to 'Cats Pause.'

Kentucky just finished one of its most historic seasons. When I received my magazine yesterday, there was only 1 page about the Bowl win and 27 pages of Basketball. Perhaps there will be more next week.

Maybe it was too fast for a turn around to get much football into this edition, but wouldn't you expect your guns loaded and articles ready to touch-up and include before the game even started? I'll give them that excuse, however Football has been the step-child in the Cats Pause since that first issue (which was handed out free at Commonwealth Stadium so many years ago).

Wouldn't it be helpful for this magazine to run information about our latest recruiting class? Nothing. Can we expect any of this information to appear in their advertised Football Book? I paid and ordered two of these books years ago and they never arrived. Contacting and even going-by the office about this never got results. That's why I gave up. This year my subscription was a mistake.

To be fair, for the longest time the basketball program always commanded the most fan attention, especially in early January.

I do agree, though, that fan interest in the football program is surging and should be treated like any other traditional SEC school.

Even when we look at posts on 'our'Kentucky sports boards posts about basketball FAR exceed posts about football. For most drive by fans, a loss in basketball is well, bad, but we can make it up.
a loss or two in football is often cause for ''get me outta here Percy'.
The CP is a business that works on that.
Another solid if not as spectacular year in football and perhaps the scales will tip.
          a little
I've always thought one reason Rich Brooks last few years were SO popular (besides being good football) is that's when basketball was beginning to stagnate under Tubby Smith.

Of course Basketball has more interest. They deserve those accolades as basketball is so superior in results...but as I wrote Oscar some 40 years ago…some 70,000 fans are interested in football too (saturday attendance). Note my comparison in the original post; 1 page of football and 27 pages of basketball.
Basketball has 12 players and about 4 coaches. Football has more than 100 players with around 10 coaches plus a huge supporting cast. Surely something is going to be newsworthy.

              I don't watch basketball anymore
For years I would watch UK basketball out of some sense of obligation ..... That is, I'm a Kentucky fan so I should watch

Then I realized that I also don't watch baseball, women's volleyball, swimming, etc.
I hope UK wins every game they play and win a 9th NCAA BB championship soon but that doesn't require my viewership to happen

I truly love Kentucky football and I have missed attending only one home game over the past 22 seasons and I plan to be there next season and as long as I am blessed with the opportunity

I'm just have no interest in the game of basketball
The only thing more mind numbingly boring to watch than college basketball is the NBA

^ I feel the same about football outside of UK. I've watched probably eight or ten college football games ever. Hated the sport in high school and it still doesn't resonate for me. Just don't get it...but I love UK.

But that's neither here nor there. That's just a personal taste. I love boxing but hate MMA, for instance. I still love baseball. I actually think tennis is a good sport. I would much rather watch soccer than football. My point is, everybody's got their own thing. It probably depends a lot on what our dads watched. My dad, being a basketball guy, got me into UK basketball at two or three years old. It stuck.

However. The point the poster is making in the OP is absolutely right. If any UK sports team regardless of the sport deserved coverage, it's this past UK football team. They deserve every accolade and every bit of praise they've gotten. They embodied everything that's right about sports and they were an absolute blast to watch.

This current UK basketball team doesn't leave it all out there like the football team did. If they played as hard as Snell and Allen UK basketball would probably be #1. But they don't. They don't appear to be built that way. This past UK football team was truly special.

Actually I shouldn't say I "hated" the sport in high school. We just had a terrible team.

I did work at Owensboro High once when they had the #1 team in the state. My wife was the yearbook coordinator and we went to all the games, including the state championship (which they lost to Fort Thomas Highlands). That was a lot of fun.

I live in Ohio. Every day the local paper has an article about Ohio State Football. There is news. It's just where the interest is…

TCP put out a nice, thick, glossy covered book that covered the whole season including the bowl win. There are plenty at my local Fivestar gas stations.

Can't believe anyone not born outside of the US is into soccer. It is the most boring game in the universe.

Football is a way much better sport than basketball. I quit watching the NFL over those stupid protests and the owners who are soft as cotton. Now that Kentucky has a competitive team, I enjoy college football even more.

I would rather watch the NHL than the NBA. I can not stand women's sports, with exception of beach volleyball, for purely aesthetic reasons. Quit going to and watching MLB games, because the sport is jacked up and heavily weighted in favor of the large market teams. Piss on the MLB.

Should the trend continue with football program, they start putting players into the pros and maybe the NFL will start to be at least somewhat interesting to follow, for me.
