    Quotes from ****************y talk

There was a thread called don't run your mouth Ky is good. Some people are not listening. I actually love these quotes.

Excuse me, but I will run my mouth about my team all day long thank you very much. Kentucky is a winnable game just like Vandy. Kentucky thinks they are the shiznit which we will prove otherwise as we did with Vandy.

To hell with tempered expectations. I expect our coaches to prepare our team to win by double digits. As our coach has said it is
a one game season. We have played 12 quarters of football and only 1.5 of those have not met my expectations. And then I expect to be on here next Monday talking about how we are going to beat Mizzou.

    I will say
like I do every year. They are UK, we should beat them in football every year. We should win this one this weekend.

Cool, we get to beat a ranked team next weekend.

There's a reason why SC is favored. Public perception is that South Carolina is the better team.

The only thing I'll run my mouth about
are those god awful blue jerseys UK was wearing on Saturday. I hope those find the dump so we don't have to see them.

Someone needs to make sure the team sees this.

Seems pretty milk toast to me. Usually the die hard fans post worse.

A little early yet, but a nice beginning.

As an FYI, if you travel around to other message boards in the SEC, most people see us as Vandy. They don't see us as a mid or lower tier SEC school like Mizzou, Mississipi St, Ole Miss, Arkansas, or South Carolina.

Sad but true. I've been to all the SEC venues except aTm and they all treat UK fans nice, for the most part, because they perceive Kentucky as no threat to win.

In basketball they were in the mighty Metro Conference before joining the SEC. In football they were independent. I don't really recall an era when they were that dominant over us. Seems to me the main reason they've had any notoriety in football is Lou Holtz and Steve Spurrier made a stop there after their prime. I'd think Bear Bryant's tenure gives us as much tradition as them.

Anyway--none of that matters as our current group certainly knows they can beat them. Just go out and take care of business Saturday! Keep it rolling fellas!

Our alltime record against them pretty heavily favors them doesn’t it? I know that from 2000 to 2010, we didn’t beat them once.

You'll love it there. Great stadium, great atmosphere, great fans. "Great" is an understatement for their fans. They're full of class and respect.

                    For what it's worth...

South Carolina was in the ACC for many years and won an ACC championship in football in 1969. They also won a few ACC basketball championships too, I think.

George Rogers won a Heisman there in 1980. They had a terrific season in 1984, finishing higher than UK's 9-3 team. They've always had a great, supportive fan base and a loud stadium. But you're right that to the extent they've had any sustained success, it was recent under Spurrier, and to a lesser extent under Holtz before him. Holtz beat Ohio State two years in a row in the Outback Bowl.

The Metro Conference never existed in football. South Carolina was an independent from the time it left the ACC until it joined the SEC in 1992.

Before South Carolina joined the SEC, the series was tied at 1-1-1. South Carolina won in 1937, Kentucky won in 1981, and they tied in 1978.

Kentucky won their first two SEC meetings in 1992 and 1993. The 1993 win was a nationally televised ESPN Thursday night game, and was part of what got Kentucky to the Peach Bowl that year.

South Carolina won 23-9 in 1994 when Kentucky was 1-10. That Kentucky team was terrible but the crowd at Commonwealth was pretty good and South Carolina didn't run away with that game.

Kentucky won in Columbia in 1995 behind Moe Williams' 429 yards. He had an amazing performance. That won was nationally televised.

South Carolina won in 1996 and 1997. In 1996 Curry or Uzelac pulled Tim Couch out of the game and Billy Jack Haskins then fumbled on the UK 1 and it cost UK momentum, the lead, and ultimately the game IIRC. I may have some of that wrong but I'm pretty sure we saw Couch benched after playing well and Haskins enter and turn over that very costly fumble and it was downhill from there. In 1997 Kentucky had a halftime lead in Columbia but then wilted in the heat and humidity. (I did too.)

Kentucky won in 1998 and 1999.

South Carolina won ten straight, 2000-2009. Mumme's final team in 2000 came within a hair of beating them. A UK WR slipped in the muddy end zone at the end of a 16-12 loss in 2002. 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2009 were close games. In 2007 UK was ranked #8 and undefeated but performed poorly in Columbia.

In 2010 South Carolina won the SEC East but lost to Kentucky.

South Carolina won three straight, 2011-2013, but by shrinking margins each year.

Kentucky has won the last four straight. 2014 was Jojo Kemp's incredible performance, unstoppable in the Wildcat in a terrific comeback win capped by Dupree's INT for a TD. 2015 was a tight road win; Denzil Ware returned a conversion attempt for 2 points. 2016 was a 1 TD win in South Carolina and last year was a 10 point win.

The overall series is 17-11-1 in South Carolina's favor. In 2000 it was 6-4-1 in Kentucky's favor. That winless decade (the 2000s) turned the tide.

I was at those games in the 90s as a student, and remember thinking of them as roughly equivalent to us. Perhaps failure in basketball makes one a football school by default.

In any case, whatever the reason, they think they should never lose to us.

I think RV has pointed out that for whatever reason South Carolina seems to belleve they just barely lose out a chance to win the SEC every year.
Really big heads, kinda small trophy case.

truth is they field some pretty solid teams. Just not that 'we're number one' level.

                            Excellent details Old School. Thanks.

Growing up I always looked at our schedule and counted Vandy as a win and a lot of years I got dissapointed. We have now proven USC wrong 4 times straight. They clearly owned us in the 2000's. We beat them a couple more times and we've owned them in the 2010's. Time to change perceptions coach Stoops! It's what we've waited decades for.

Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.
