    After calming down

Winning by 15 after giving up multiple turnovers is impressive.
    the defense looked improved yesterday.
The offensive line helped crank out almost three hundred on the ground replacing Landon.
    Rose looks for real.
Bennie was sick and went over a hundred.
    Tennessee got rolled at home.
Louisville lost in epic style to an Alabama team that played defense so badly at times I thought Saban would stroke

Over all, real good opening day.

All I can say.....the first half really, REALLY sucked. The second half didn't.

and yet we were ahead at half. We gave a decent team nothing offensively and our mistakes on offense can be addressed with experience and reps. Glass half full up my way.

The most promising thing that I saw was only one missed tackle because they tried to arm tackle. I may have missed one but either way the tackling technique has really improved.

I didn't foresee 4 turnovers, one fumble that we recovered, and one interception that was just dropped or muffed by the defensive back. I saw some throws that were fit into tight coverage by Wilson and Hoak. If our quarterback play improves from week one to week two, as it did with Steven Johnson, we look improved from last year across the board. I'm glad to hear we're going to make sure Clark gets some reps. Not being able to survive physical play has had it's toll on quarterbacks. They had C.J covered like a fur coat on a wooly mammoth. The line provided more time more often in our passing game than the past few seasons. True, this wasn't an SEC defense but blitzes were being picked up with the exception of A.J. missing a block and giving up a sack. He definitely redeemed himself. We could have a really good football team before this season is over. It's just a rebuilding process for everyone each year. I think that was pretty much true for Alabama. I'm not sure why some of the Louisville players wanted to "slap the bull" or "poke the bear" leading up to the game. This next week should tell us a lot more. The bad news is we may find ourselves developing game QB's mentally over the next several games. The good news is the QB's we have are really talented.

This is a pretty good summary. I worry about our QBs in the swamp but there is more to like about our team than we had had in over a decade.

Going for it on 4th and 8 instead of trying a 48 yard fg is noteworthy. Speaks volumes about our kicker and that is disturbing.

It is well documented that he doesn’t have the leg for a 48 yd attempt. 42 is about the limit of his range. The Aussie can boom it, but is less accurate.

That 48 was into the wind as well.

The Aussie is the punter, not a place kicker. Chance Poore would be the option on long FG's. My guess is in that spot, the coaches didn't want to use of the four games he can play and still keep his redshirt. That game was pretty much wrapped up by then.

CMS DID address he had a 'yardage block' set in his mind prior to the game and 48 yards was pushing that envelope to the tearing point.
i have no idea what the fg kickers ranges may be. I DO agree with NOT putting them in a position where the first attempt of the year may ruin their confidence by being a ''range stretcher'.

Seems like Stoops' teams always start slow. I can't remember an opener I was really impressed with.

Probably speaks more to who the Week 2 opponent is. I doubt they wanted to do much of anything that would show Florida an awful lot. We usually come out and play much better in the second week.

And we better because if we don't we'll be smashed by four or five touchdowns.

Will is right about Stoops' teams starting slow. That said, it is a positive that we won that game Saturday - we've lost similar games as recently as 2 years ago. But there's real concern about QB play and if it's not much better Saturday, we'll get blown out.

When CMU scored with almost 6 minutes left in the first half my father bet me a quarter that we would go into halftime down. I'm rich!

you’re right, I thought Poore was from Australia also...

Well, living in Tennessee for most of my adult life + the fact that most of my friends are UT fans, I watched most of their game instead of UK. Also have WV friends and have spent some time in the Morganton area, so was kinda hoping for the outcome that occurred.

First - a slight correction - the game if I'm not mistaken was at a neutral site - Charlotte, NC I think. Regardless, Tennessee really disappointed my orange friends and family down here. They were highly overmatched with WV.
