You can think his struggles were due to getting over the injury but surely you don't think the coaches were playing him (Barker) if the Doctors hadn't cleared him. You can think he was a better option than Hoak but the coaches see them every day in practice and in the film room. You can think the coaches should have done something different but the coaches and not you are impacted in their vocation by what they choose to do. One would then think the coaches would choose to do what they think is in the best interests of the team...
...or maybe not.👍 1Comment

And that should be the biggest piece in the "Stoops Yea/Nay" at the conclusion of the upcoming season. His inability to recruit an SEC-caliber QB in 6 seasons could/should be his downfall.👍 1Comment

To be fair, we have had some highly regarded committs. Unfortunately, they went to better programs. Can't blame them for that.Isaiah 5:20Comment

It looks like we're headed for another juco QB this season.
Does this mean that CMS is unable to identify a solid QB candidate at the HS level or unable to develop them once they get to campus.
It seem like our QBs come in with decent reputations; I'll say that development is the issue which, of course, falls on the staff.Comment

Interesting that you should make the point about QBs SCB. I'm in the same boat.

It took them half the season, last year, to settle on the center position. As great of a runner that Johnson was, if he didn't have the separation from his receivers with the defenders, he couldn't get the ball to them.
Rich Brooks had Randy Sanders. I think Stoops needs to find him a QB coach that can get that position game ready.Comment

Seems like a lot of folks know what they want in a QB but I would really like to know what folks deem an "SEC caliber QB". Is the term subjective or based on some measurable data? Is it based on star ranking, individual stats, team stats, division titles, team record, draft order or something else? Which of these criteria are folks using to determine what that QB is or should be?Comment

If there is a question about Hoak, it may be his decision making when the pocket breaks down and he's under significant pressure. These were the situations that Johnson was able to turn in his favor. I like Hoak's ability and his competitive "scrappiness" - if that is a word. When I've seen him mess up it is when this kind of pressure is on. How will Terry do? He has an edge in experiencing such pressure at Oregon and in Arizona. The Juco pressure is obviously not at the same level as what you will face in the SEC. The truth is, as Stoops has said, you can't tell who can handle this kind of a situation until there is "live fire" in a game context. I think we could see both play early in the season if someone doesn't step up in training camp. There is also the possibility that we will need both before the season is over. I would make sure Clark is getting enough reps too. The competition will be a mental one. Confidence, correctly reading the defense, and quick decision making. Whoever steps on the field first can expect the other defense to stack the box and bring the house in the hope of rattling the new QB. I'm holding my breath on the DL. Bohanna is the real deal. If Middleton or who ever stands up on the first step they will get pushed aside, and we will have a real problem when Bohanna gets tired or worn down over the season. This is the first time in a long time I think we can have a really good football team. We need to play juiced and aggressively on defense. Turn them dogs loose!👍 1Comment

I think one major thing they have to adjust to is the speed of the game, and more talent than they ever faced in HS.John 3:3
