Kentucky football adds basketball transfer from Iowa

A former basketball player at Iowa has opted to finish his college eligibility playing football at Kentucky.
Ahmad Wagner, a 6-foot-7, 235-pound player from Yellow Springs, Ohio, announced his plans via Twitter on Tuesday.
First off I would like to thank God for the blessing and opportunity he has put in front of me.. with that being said after much thought and consideration from my family I will be furthering my academic and athletic career at the University of Kentucky! #BBNpic.twitter.com/OUWi5n9IV9

Do I understand this right? He is a WR? With that size and if he has speed, throw the ball in his area and he will go get it.

We need an accurate QB to make it happen.

Don't let Cal get a hold of him or he will declare for the NBA draft.

What we have here is Megatron potential. Young man ran track - 400 Relay. How do you defend against WR this tall, athletic, and with good hands?

Since he is switching sports he will be eligible this fall correct?

Also, according to the article, he has two seasons of eligibility left.

'bout time this happened. Excellent addition. Perhaps he won't help a lot this fall, perhaps he will but I really like this pickup and expect him to become a key piece at some point.

With RV's stamp of approval, now I'm really excited to see this young man on the field.

Don't think switching has anything to do with his eligibility. Only reason I can think of is a grad transfer When the rumors of his xfer first surface, the story was that he would have to sit out a year.

I was applying the same "logic" the NCAA uses to state that a student can be a paid pro in a different sport than the one they compete in for their school and remain eligible.

If Iowa gave him a transfer release he wouldn't be required to sit out. The NCAA website doesn't clearly address the issue of switching sports.

Since he "reportedly" will play right away AND has two years of eligibility left it would seem, he got his release or that switching sports matters. (or some other exception) If he were a walk-on basketball player at Iowa, he could also transfer without penalty.

While I hope you're correct I'd pull in the reigns on expectations of a guy who has played the sport in a few years and certainly never at the SEC level. Calvin Johnson was fairly good.
