UK defenders confirm they are among those seeking feedback about early NFL Draft entr

At least two Kentucky defenders confirmed on Saturday that they’re among the collection of players who have sought feedback from the NFL about their potential early entry into the draft.
Junior defensive back Mike Edwards and outside linebacker Josh Allen both said they had been mulling the jump to the next level, but haven’t made any decisions yet.
“I’ll see what the draft status is,” said Edwards, who led the Cats in tackles during the regular season with 90, including four for a loss and a sack. “I’m worried about the bowl game right now, but if the time comes, and I’m going to go as a high draft pick, then that’s what I’m going to do.”
Edwards also has team highs in interceptions (four) and pass breakups (six) this season.
Allen, who started as an unknown two-star player but has become more visible this season, said he “hasn’t declared anything.
The plan is to “take my time, wait until after the bowl game and sit down with my family and go over everything,” said Allen, who is fourth on the team in tackles with 58, including a team-high nine for loss and seven sacks.
Allen also has one pick along with four quarterback hurries, three pass breakups and two forced fumbles so far this season.
His plan after the Music City Bowl was to sit down with his mom, his family and his girlfriend and talk about what his final decision about his football future would be.
Two other junior defensive players who might be mulling the move, linebackers Jordan Jones and Denzil Ware, did not meet with the media on Saturday after practice. It’s not uncommon for players to seek out NFL feedback on where they might get drafted if at all. UK had one player, running back Boom Williams, leave early for the NFL. He went undrafted.

Good for both of them. IF they get strong advice to head to the NFL, they should go. It's their dream. Plus I think it's great for recruiting..."I can go to UK and they will help me get better.....".

They should go through the evaluation and heed what they are told by the NFL.

Correct. Its what all "big time" recruits look at, and it certainly has worked in other sports.

Agree with all of these comments. But, the key is that they must actually heed the draft evaluations and not make the same mistake that Boom Williams made. If it says "go,", then go. If not, then don't.

I've often wondered if Boom had been healthy, during his time at UK, if he would have left early. He may have been gambling on getting at least one NFL contract as opposed to returning for his Sr. season and suffering a career ending injury.

I think he was afraid he was on his last wheels.

Running backs tend to have shorter careers that other skilled positions. A key concern has to be physical maturity. From the little I know lineman and linebackers would generally benefit from another year of physical development to improve their draft stock. There are other considerations including family circumstances. If your family needs financial help that has to be a really important consideration. Many of these kids are trying to raise themselves and their families out of dire circumstances. It would take the wisdom of Jobe to make the right call sometimes.

Not sure if anyone leaves for the draft, after this season, but I hope they make the correct choice and don't go undrafted. I would love to see Benny Snell play four years, but I think the young man will enter the draft, after his junior season. Not sure who the next "Snell" or "Boom" is, but I haven't see anyone else on the field this season with star quality at RB. For the record, I am not discounting Lyn Bowden as a player. I consider him to a receiver, not a RB.

Well, we have only seen one other back get any significant time this year. FWIW, I thought King looked really good this season. Unfortunately, the coaches thought otherwise.

King isn't chopped liver, but he is a tier lower than Snell or Boom. Just my opinion. Hope another one show up, next season.

No matter how good you are, you're not going to get a lot of touches when you play in the same backfield with Snell. Also, we had a QB who wasn't shy about running. Johnson had 97 carries this past season.

Was there ever a point in any game that you were thinking, "Hey we should be getting the ball to King" rather than Snell? I thought King got the correct amount of carries.
