Maybe we have misunderstood Johnkyblue. Maybe all of the "a positive narrative gives positive vibes" talk was directed at the players being negative having a negative impact on us fans.👍 1Comment

Saying negative things about the game makes a lot of sense. MSU looked so fast like they knew what we were doing and had a head start. They were on the ball before it was even there. They were so fast I got scared more than any Halloween thing. Which makes me think we were slow, whichever, doesn't matter.
Spinning a narrative about the program is a different thing than being negative about the game, or even the season. Packers just lost about 7-10% of their offensive production, but it will be back next year. No Packer fan is going to quit being a Packer fan, going to say the ship is sinking, because they just lost Aaron Rogers for now. They will tell you there is a chance this other guy could get really good, and be cheesy as could be about it, even. They might tell you they are done this year, no big deal. My point is, it's about the narrative. Words have meaning, saying "Don't spin a negative narrative" is not the same as "don't say we are done."
A narrative is an over-riding storyline.Comment

I don't understand how we can have one of the best blocking offensive lines in the SEC last year, and then this year not so much. We had depth on the OL line last year. The second team OL was effective. We have a majority of OL back this year. We had the size, speed, athleticism on the OL last year. Surely we didn't get smaller, slower, more feeble. etc. Gran out coached Grantham in the Louisville game last year. Grantham got payback this year. He jammed the middle of the line ... outmanned and assaulted from guard to guard. We may have become too predictable. MS seem to anticipate and reacted quickly. I really like Drake but he is young and needs to step up his game. Our strength last year was Toth. No so much this year. I think/hope Drake will become an outstanding SEC center. Two of our best receivers are not on the field. Badet and Baker. So we have to rely on help from some talented but inexperienced freshmen receivers. Defenses are taking or trying to take Conrad away. Johnson didn't have one of his better games but he has significantly improved his accuracy and his short to intermediate passing game. When you can't take the top off the defense it will take a toll on the run game. We likely need to work on getting our skilled players in space. We definitely took a step back on defense this last week. We seemed over committed to stuffing the run between tackles that we lost containment off and outside the tackles. When we had someone in position they couldn't make the tackle or missed the tackle. Stoops may need to get more involved with the defensive side of the ball. When he did last year there was a significant improvement. Negativity and compost piles have heat in common. Compost can be used to fertilize growth. Not sure that negativity can foster or nurture growth.👍 1Comment

Fans of every team have the right to question and praise, whichever way things go. This team still has a great shot to end the season better than any team in a long time. We aren't going to influence a coach in any way. I like some of the comments coaches and players are making.
especially telling was the stat that out of ten chances the secondary had to stop Mississippi State, they made zero.
Football boils down to players winning one on one contests....at least ones at the right times.
For some reason I think last week was an aberration, not a symptom.
Heaven knows I've been wrong before but whether I understand the coaches philosophies or plans or not, I still like this bunch of players.
I'm betting we see the fight back in them at home against the Orange.

I'm a bit surprised that we've only outgained one opponent this year - EKU. Every other team has outgained us by a little or a lot.Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

Yup. I heard the stat this morning that opponents had outgained us by 500 yards, so I got curious. Thought maybe it was either an exaggeration or a misread of the stats.Extremism is so easy. This year's version of the Cats have won by using field position, taking their opportunities on turnovers and an improved punting game. The opponent scores usually come from big plays or long drives.
Troublesome is this defense seems to give up a large number of long plays.
Coach Stoops has pointed out more than once that the secondary, a position he personally is heavily involved in, has been out of position or has far too often been beaten in 50/50 chances.Comment
