Ole Miss Star QB Shea Patterson Tears PCL - Out for Season

Ole Miss confirmed that Shea Patterson, who's been playing some absolutely stellar football as of late, tore his PCL and is expected to be out for the remainder of the season.

It's never good to hear about an injury to any player. Get well soon young man, and fully recover.

Patterson is an unusually talented QB who was having a terrific year. But his backups are pretty talented too. They have at least four offensive linemen who were ranked in or around the top 10 nationally at their position as prospects, and WRs who were top 20. Their line and receivers are probably both in the top half of SEC units. Same for their DL. Losing Patterson is significant, but Ole Miss is still a very dangerous team, and they'll give UK's defense all it wants. They've allowed 19 sacks all year, less than 1.5 per game. They're ranked #4 in the country in offensive explosiveness. Their DL is going to be a real test for Johnson, Snell, King, and the offensive line. This won't be an easy out, even with Patterson down.

Shea Patterson's backup at QB for Ole Miss, Jordan Ta'amu, has thrown for 236 yards today, and also rushed for 85 yards and 2 TDs. And it's only halftime.

Their RB Jordan Wilkins has rushed for 92 yards and 1 TD on 8 carries so far.

Ole Miss remains a dangerous team.

              . . .

Ta’amu ended up with 368 yards passing, 20/30, 198 on the ground, 566 total yards, 12.3 yards per pass attempt, 6.8 yards per rush, only 3 penalties for 27 yards, 37 points in only 19:29 time of possession.

And they managed to lose by 1 point.

Elsewhere, Louisville gave up 461 yards through the air (5 TDS, 0 INTs) and 166 and 1 TD on the ground (627 total yards), losing at Wake Forest.

i guess with all the disarray in UoFeLony’s athletics department lately, they weren’t able to steal Wake’s playbook again this year.

Ole Miss totally blew that game yesterday. Had a 24 point lead and let it slip away. Hopefully that destroys their confidence for next week.

Or makes them mad and determined to not let it happen again.

ESPN's site gives percentage chances of teams winning games beforehand, and while in progress. I assume they are heavily stat-driven, as they change constantly during games depending on what happens on the field. I don't know how solid their projections are. But here's the chance of victory they have for Kentucky against its final opponents this year:

61.1% chance of beating Ole Miss

51.2% chance of winning at Vanderbilt

4.4% chance of winning at Georgia

                    33.8% chance of beating Louisville

I'd drop the percentage against Ole Miss a bit and raise it against Louisville significantly. The two in the middle are about right, probably. Vanderbilt poses some difficulties for this team and roster.

I'm going to predict Kentucky opens as a 3 or 4 point favorite against Ole Miss, and the line drops. Vanderbilt: line of 1, maybe 2 points, or even, either way, depending on what each team does on Saturday vs. Ole Miss and WKU. My best guess: UK by 1, to open.

If Missouri can take down Florida and Kentucky can beat Ole Miss and Vanderbilt, Kentucky finishes second in the SEC East, at 5-3 with the tiebreaker over South Carolina (assuming Georgia or Florida beat South Carolina...most likely, Georgia). If Florida beats Missouri, but South Carolina beats Florida, Kentucky also finishes second in the SEC East if South Carolina wins at home against Florida...if Kentucky beats Ole Miss and Vanderbilt.

This is potentially a very rewarding two game stretch coming up. Ole Miss is dangerous and I hope the guys realize that and come in sharp, focused and ready to rumble. And the trip to Vanderbilt won't be easy. They've beaten a ranked team there already. Surprisingly, Kentucky hasn't won there since 2009, and has only won twice there in the past 16 years. Even the 2007 team had trouble there, winning by only 7 - almost the same margin of victory that year against #9 Louisville and #1 LSU.
