At his salary, why should we be cutting him a break? Has he exceeded expectations given the mediocre competition we've faced over the first five games? Why should he be given a break after letting UK became the laughing stock of college football by allowing TWO TDs to uncovered receivers. Our offense is offensive (ranked #101), and our defense is ranked #66. Until we beat a team we shouldn't, NO BREAKS! (but maybe a participation trophy)

RV. I'm assuming you are referring to my post. Please tell me what have I said that is unjustifiably negative about our coaches, or our team? The rose-colored glasses are off. The facts truly speak for themselves. Look at the NCAA stats which put us in the back-half of all teams. Look at a coaching staff that allowed TWO uncovered touchdowns. Look at a team that plays down to every opponent.
I have been a life-time fan & supporter of the Wildcats since they played at Stoll Field.....and weathered many years of mediocre-to-poor football. If we do turn this season around, please do revisit my post. I'm just curious what you would say because I believe everything I've said is factual up to this point in the season. Once again, why should we be giving our coaches a "break" right now? They don't need a break, they need to fix what's broken!

Because wins are all that matter.

It's been a roller coaster, but you can also look at it like this: we've had a crap-ton of injuries. Just a few years ago most of us would've done pretty much anything to be in this position going into a bye week in mid-October.

Turn what season around? We're 5-1.

So petulance is the path to success? Will emails go out letting us know which future wins we can celebrate?

In any case, thanks for posting the perfect post that raises an important question. Why should the fans "give CMS a break" and cool it with the negativity?

              1. 5 years ago our program was utter dog crap and we are now 5 and 1 with two SEC wins and one SEC loss 1pt. You can say that those were the "bad sec teams" but I am pretty sure Bama, FL, UT, UGA, LSU, Auburn and the like counted their wins against us when we sucked for decades. We have had a start this good in what 3 of the last 30 years?

              2. The defense has been for the most part structurally sound (how many years of the last 30 could you say that) and the offense has begun to show sparks of how good it can be. In short, for most of my adult life, we have played like we rode the short bus to the game, now we look like a real football team.

              3. Our head Coach has assembled a talented likeable team of young men that we can be proud of.

              4. The negativity isn't constructive. At all. If we run off one of our better hires after what he has accomplished, our head coach job will be radioactive for another generation.

              5. It makes our fan base look like complete idiots to complain about one of the better starts in recent school history. We still have people in the stands angrily shouting, "THROW TEH BALL TO CONRADDDD!!!" when he is double covered and we just hit a 20 yard gain to someone else.

I'm not saying we should burn any couches on state street, but my goodness fans, lighten up, and enjoy some success in the light of realistic expectations.

EDIT: As far as leaving someone uncovered for a TD, I saw that in an NFL game last week.

I think the Conrad point is a really good one. There seems to be this weird obsession with people thinking he should get the ball thrown his way much more often. But the TE's primary job is to provide help to the O-line. And it's fairly easy to see that UK's line can use all the help it can get. In a perfect world the O-line needs no help and Conrad can go out in routes on every passing play. But that's just not the case.

"Petulance?" Hardly. If you are satisfied with our level of play so far this year, fine. I'm not. My expectations haven't been met because we're currently playing to the level of our opponent, and not playing to our potential.

Why you have any expectations of a Kentucky team other than "win" is beyond me.

To say, "They should improve" is well different than saying they need to turn the season around SCBlu

Because before CS got here those close games were nearly all loses. Now they are wins. That equals improvement. I echo RV's comment.

That comment wasn't specifically directed at you, but rather the angry half of our fan base in general. I have no problem with expressing concern (as I have) that we may not be as good as our record or that we need to get a lot better, but we have fans who are treating 5-1 as if it were 1-5.

There were plenty of things to get excited about from last weeks game if you know where to look.
The O-line looked much more cohesive than they have at any point this season. Jackson showed well as did Fortner and Wolfe putting us at 9 deep on the O-line.
We have played 10 D-linemen and all have had their moments and are a solid group.
We get Jones back and everyone else should be healed up.
The defensive set we played in the majority of the game is something we've rarely used so I expect us to go back to base plus rush nickel where we've been more than adequate.
We are developing a really good group of WR's and Bowden is just about to blow up.
Special teams have been very special.
It looked to me like we took a step forward on offense last week.
Tennessee and Mississippi are ongoing train wrecks and we get them at home.
ul is Lamar and little else.
Stephen Johnson - no need to say more.

Of course we've not played up to our potential and are still 5-1. That should cause a thinking person to be optimistic. It would be horrible if we were 5-1 and obviously playing over our heads as then we would have little to look forward to but disappointment.

How about we set the over and under wins for the rest of the season at two. I say over. What say you?
