I noticed on the 4 and 1, EKU put 10 players in the box. We had 3 out wide, with Snell in the wildcat. They only had 1 player covering 3. We have to be able to do more then just run straight ahead out of it. Even a little jump pass to the TE would work wonders. But with 3 out wide and only 1 covering them, we should have taken our chances, even of we have to throw it backwards to so if Benny throws short, we still can move the ball forwards, and one on three, I like our chances of getting that 1 yard we need.

Well fortunately we used less wildcat yesterday than a week ago. But, yes--if the only wrinkle in the package is Benny runs to left of our center rather than right of center it is a doomed play. 10 against 8 and they know what's coming is not good for our side. Especially when we struggle to even snap it to him without testing his vertical leap. -
I'm as big a Randall Cobb fan as anyone. Maybe Snell will be a modern day great of our program too. But I think maybe the reason the wildcat worked so well with Cobb was because Cobb could do virtually anything from it including throw accurately. The defense did not know what was coming every time. Perhaps develop some other options from it and run it 2 or 3 times per game. Again the fewer wasted plays from it yesterday was a big improvement over week 1.👍 1Comment

The options in the Wildcat are:
1. Run inside with QB
2. Run outside with QB
3. Run outside with Jet Sweeper
4. Jet Sweeper throws
5. QB throws
We have seen 1, and that's it. I hope tUSC only prepares for 1.Comment

Seems like when the wildcat has worked most of the time in the Stoops era it's when the other team is about gassed.
JoJo went to it that year late in the game. Snell grinded out so many games last year late coming out of the wildcat.
Seems like a much more difficult play to run when the defense is fresh and waiting.Comment

He needs to. That EKU put 10 in the box and left three guys guarded by 1, AND WE STILL RAN RIGHT UP THE MIDDLE says loud and clear that teams are ready for what we are doing with the wildcat. I think our implementation of it this year makes us look stupid.Originally posted by John Stuart MillHe who knows only his own side of the case knows little of that... Agree. They read it in yesterday's newspaper. I will say it again, unless we can show the ability to throw out of, then scrap that junk. It just screams offensive ineptitude.Isaiah 5:20Comment

I think we will see it again. I also think we may see Lynn Bowden running it ... maybe this weekend. I have a feeling we are going to see LB get more touches. We need a spark ... or two. Koback should be ready ... sooner than later. I hope. Clevan Thomas seems to have disappeared somewhat. I read somewhere that SC is focusing on stopping the run. If so that should open up some passing lanes. I guess we'll see. We definitely need to open up the play book a bit and simplify blocking for the OL.Comment
