ESPN gave him 4 stars, ranked him the #19 ILB in his class, #72 prospect in Florida
24/7, 3 stars, #57 OLB, #103 in Florida, #716 nationally
Rivals, 3 stars
Scout, 3 stars
He had offers from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Purdue, Indiana, Rutgers, Arizona, Boston College, Iowa State, Wake Forest, Louisville, and several non-Power 5 schools.
We were glad to have him as part of the 2014 recruiting class.
I wonder if it might have gone differently if he had not been injured and missed much of his redshirt freshman season.
Best wishes to him, wherever he lands, and regardless of whether he continues with football.
Oddly, out of that top 20 2014 recruiting class that had over a dozen 4 star recruits (15, I think, if you include rankings from all services), one of the best contributors will probably end up being Bunchy Stallings, who was the only 2 star recruit in the class.
Of the 28 in that class, the majority have already left the program, if I have this right:
Gone: 15:
Nick Richardson
Mikel Horton
Boom Williams
Cory Johnson (JUCO)
Dorian Hendrix
Thaddeus Snodgrass
Darryl Long
Jarrett LaRubbio
Jared Tucker
Ryan Flannigan (JUCO)
T.V. Williams
Josh Krok
A.J. Stamps (JUCO)
Lloyd Tubman
Nico Firios
Still with the team: 13:
Bunchy Stallings
Matt Elam
Garrett Johnson
Adrian Middleton
Denzel Ware
Kobie Walker
Tymere Dubose
Kendall Randolph
Blake Bone
Darius West
Mike Edwards
Drew Barker
Dorian Baker
Further proof that recruiting ratings are very fallible.
It's odd that the losses in that class hit the offensive line so heavily, yet that's probably the strongest, deepest spot on the roster now. The defensive line retained a good chunk of that class, and is possibly the position of most concern.
I think over time the staff has improved its ability to identify the right talent for what they want and need to do on the field.👍 1Comment
