    NFL playoffs revamped.

I have been saying for years the NFL needs to reconstruct their playoff system. Being stuck on the AFC vs NFC has made for some terrible Superbowls. I would much rather see a power ranking system similar to the BCS and try and aim for the two best teams to meet. There have been years where the two best teams were obviously in the same conference and it made from some great conference championships only to have a Superbowl dud. They need to set this thing up for winning records period. Separating the entire league down the middle is outdated.

Why would you wanna have a SB matchup between 2 teams from the same conference? I like it the way it is. Makes sense. Always has. The only thing the NFL needs to change is to have no more ties in the regular season.

Why would you not? Why would two teams from the same conference be any different than two teams from a different conference? Conferences are imaginary groupings. It actually doesnt makes sense its just what everyone is used to. Do you think its wrong to put two teams from the same conference in the final four? How about if the SEC was the most dominant conference in basketball and they put us all in one bracket just to keep us from dominating the final 4? Same premise. The best should play.

I have always considered pro sports to have skewed playoff systems. JMO

It seems like this would have more traction in the NBA...

When was the last dud Superbowl you saw and how would that year have been different under your system?

That would be fairly difficult to answer. Most of the Superbowls have been ok. I guess the last dud was two years ago. To say a different system was have prevented this would be a guess I would have to go back and see who else had a good team in the NFC, who beat who and determine a ranking system for an entire season. The main goal would be to keep teams from being punished because they are in the same division or conference. Just like seeding in the tourney. Why should the best teams play before the championship? It guarantees nothing but it at least tries.

If each Conference played against someone else in their Conference then you wouldnt have just one Superbowl a year, you would have 2. The winner from each conference faces each other for that Superbowl. So why change it, when its working fine the way it is.

Super Bowl XLVIII had the two best teams IMO, one team just beat the hell out of the other.

As I said, you can make a case for this being a need in the NBA for sure.

Well way the system is now the winner of one conference faces the winner of the other conference then that creates the Superbowl but if you stopped doing that then its what I said.

Yea I know how it is, what Im saying is why get stuck doing the conference vs conference thing? Just set it up where the two best teams play. Imagine if we did something similar in baseball where you had East vs West. They would have UK, UNC, DUKE, and Louisville all playing knocking each other off just so UCLA or Kansas could get to the championship game. Imagine if they had a down year and all the good teams knock each other off just to play some obscure western team just because thats the way it is.

So correct me if im wrong but something close to how the Basketball Bracket is for March? If so then I would agree NFL could do something like that.

Yes similar but of course not as many teams. I know it will never happen but just fun to think about.
