I'm looking for info/advice. We've had two Cisco routers and haven't been satisfied with either one. I know there are a variety of routers on the market and about as many different prices. We've looked at the eero system, but $300.00 for two or $500.00 for three is a bit pricey. In addition to the desktop, we also have a laptop and a tablet we would like to have on the 'net. Thanks in advance to any and all who reply.

We use Netgear at work and the IT guy recommended that for home as well. I can't remember what I paid but it was far less than what you mentioned. We only have my desktop and the wifes tablet that we use but it does just fine for us. -
I use Netgear on our system at work with a signal extender on the first floor. I've got the same Netgear router at home. Spent nearly $200 for each couple of years ago.
The range is very good at home. While on the mower I can still stream music from 150 feet away. These routers both have 5G capability.Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

We have Time Warner and use theirs. Is there anyway I can get another router and put it in a second room to extend the range? Ours is in the front living room and we don't get Internet in the back living room or our bedroom.Comment

We use Time Warner also. When I got a letter from them, I called about 3 weeks ago and they sent us another more powerful router, and we have no problems now.John 3:3

I'm glad Matt started this thread, and I don't want to hijack it, but we've been having issues at home for the past few months. If one of our kids is online we get a real glitchy stream. We can use Amazon on our tablet in the basement, but it's hit and miss. Hardly any chance of using Netflix.
Strangely though the connection is always listed as "Strong." What's weird is that it comes and goes. We'll go three or four days with no problems. Netflix works fine. And then there'll be a few days of just insane glitchiness. Sometimes this doesn't seem to have to do with the kids being on there.
I don't think it has to do with our distance from the router, either. We're in the basement but we get a bad stream when we're upstairs, sitting three feet from the router.
Any thoughts?Comment

^ We had similar issues at home for a while. Seemed to apply to our phones more than anything else, but it occurred across all devices. I'd try to do something online through my phone and it would load a page or two, then would fail to load anything. I'd turn off the WiFi, then turn it back on; it'd get another few pages, then it'd do the same thing. Maddening.
The tech guy at our IP told me that our phones are always looking for the strongest signal, and that some routers (ours included, apparently) put out a wide range of individual signals/frequencies. He instructed me to turn off something in my phone that constantly seeks the strongest signal, and to then set up my router so that it only puts out one frequency instead of cycling between many. That seemed to work for a while, but then...it didn't. His next suggestion was to buy a new router (go figure). I can't remember right off what brand ours is, but he said that brand had recently been purchased by a larger company and suffered as a result. Said a lot of subscribers had reported similar issues, and all of them owned that brand of router.
To my pleasant surprise, we put off buying a new router, and the problem seems to have resolved itself (or the IP did something about it). Not sure if any of that helps, but the frequency search thing might be worth a try.Comment

I know very little about the technical side of things but, last evening, I hooked the router back up and the desktop computer worked fine but the laptop and tablet still did not have an internet connection.Philippians 4:11-4:13Comment

Hmm. Never heard of a signal extender. Does it help when a lot of people are online?

What I've noticed with routers is it's a good habit to reboot them every couple of days. My brother-in-law has a router (Linksys, I think) that has software that allows you to schedule rebooting it.
I reboot ours in the office every 2-3 days usually after everyone has left. Same for the one at home.Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

^Interesting info there Surveyor. I have never thought of rebooting, but I can see where it would be a benefit.Isaiah 5:20Comment
