Do you plan out your day or do you...

...free flow things as much as possible?

I find that when I schedule my day out, it tends to go smoother, I'm able to get more accomplished, and I'm able to enjoy my time better. In other words, I see myself controlling my circumstances rather than the other way around.

Alternatively, when I don't plan effectively, my day feels much more scattered, and I feel like my time has been wasted.

    So, what do you do?

Although I'm retired (since 1999), I still plan my day out as I have duties, here at home, that I'm responsible for. I've been a big believer in planning and organization my entire adult life.

I am not really a planner but my Wife is, so I have been sorta forced to follow a schedule, lol. Everything is on a calendar- meals, Dr's appointments, birthdays, and various other days of importance. I can't tell you how many times I wonder what is for dinner. I will text her, and she's all like "It's on the calendar!".

        LOL.

I think women tend to be much more organized than men generally.

I think it's important to have stuff to look ahead to. I like setting up plans with people so that the tedium of a 9/5 job doesn't get to me.

In my experience it's extremely important to have something you can strive toward during the week. The people I know who have substance abuse problems or suffer from depression seem to be "by the seat of the pants" folks: people who get up in the morning with no plan, nothing really to get excited about, whatever happens happens. I just can't imagine living like that.

Well I'm retired, but I still like to organize. My wife is just the opposite, just look at her pantry. I want to stay busy, but I am sitting around more the older I get, especially in the winter. I also spend a lot of time in a gym grading referees. Still go to the Y, and walk in the water and swim a few laps. I sing a lot at Churches, at homeless shelters, and anywhere God can use me.

I know what you mean. I do plan somewhat. I have to have some sort of structure because as you say, i can't imagine living like that. I used to think my Wife and her planning was a tad extreme. I have come to realize that she needs that and I need it too.
