I see and (more often) hear coyotes on and around our property on a pretty regular basis. We're right on the VA state line, and in the next VA county over they used to offer $75.00 a pelt for every coyote you could kill. Not sure they still offer a bounty, but fairly certain that it's still open season. A friend of Dad's has a farm in that county, and he's killed more than a few in the past.

^ It used to be quite a bit more. Our property was strip mined about 13 years ago (no, not my choice) and wildlife is able to move about so easily now, as they literally have a flat open road on which they can travel. That's nice in some ways, but in others not so much. I'm glad that we don't have livestock.

Best dog I ever had was a Manchester Terrier/Dobie mix. Got her in '97. She was abandoned by her owners because she had parvo and they didn't pay the bill. My girlfriend, now Wife, at the time took her in. Best dog ever. She dies in 2010. I have had her collar on my steering column ever since. We now have a Bichon Friese. Wife's friend couldn't take her to her rented home at the time. We got her August of 2014 and she is just the best. SUPER smart and loves to snuggle up with us. This dog is a HEATER. Makes for comfortable sleeping.

We actually thought about getting a couple sheep for no other reason than to give the dog something to herd.

The dog we currently have is Nelson, a black and white Springer Spaniel. Nelson goes to work with my husband every day and takes virtually every vacation with us in our camper. The first time he visited Eastern Kentucky, he wouldn't get out of the truck when we got back home. Every morning as I took him out to walk at Jenny Wiley, he had his nose to the air, smelling all those woods and wildlife smells. We have a lot of deer and other wildlife in our neighborhood, but this must have been something new and better. Nelson has a talent, about a 36 inch vertical leap. Looks like he's standing on all fours in midair, then he spins 360 degrees before landing. That's when he wants something good to eat (like a steak bone or leftover cat food), to play, or go for a walk. His father was named Thumper Do, which makes sense.

A dog I'd like to own is some variety of Coonhound, partial to Black and Tan, though I've heard if they get on the trail of something, there's no calling them back. My grandfather always had them, and I remember their sound when he was loading them up to go on a hunt.

^capcat, Rex was named due to the light color of his coat and also his ability to jump. He's able to jump up to my shoulder and I'm 6' tall, so the name seemed fitting.

He loves the trails at Jenny Wiley, but oddly enough tries to act as though he is tired when we walk them.

Good thing you're young, is all I've got to say. Ha. I stay out of Nelson's way. Had a few knee events, bent in the wrong direction, by him during his moments of exuberance.

We started out with a purebred minpin we got from a breeder 21 years ago. He passed in 2010 2 weeks after his 15th birthday. While these people were reputable breeders and didn't run a puppy mill, I decided not to go that route again. The 3 dogs we currently have is one stray and 2 the owner didn't want anymore, or no longer had the time to care for them.

The stray, Lilly, is a female minpin who showed up on a coworker's farm in 2007 and we took her in to keep our older minpin company.
The other two are miniature dachshunds that their owners no longer had the time to care for them. The male, Mason is 7 and the female, Maya, is 3.

The female minpin is the alpha, although the female dachshund could take her easy if she wanted, as she outweighs the minpin 14 lbs to 9 lbs.

The females have caught numerous squirrels and lost a battle with a cornered groundhog. Lilly has brought a couple of garden snakes into the house that she assumed she'd killed, but we discovered she was wrong - as they had found refuge in the coat closet.

Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

I was gonna post a pic of me and Dex, but I realized I didn't know how to post pictures on here.

                    Is it even possible?

See post #23. I've added a pic. When posting, click the A in the box in the upper right. It will provide links to more options for your post. The picture icon opens a dialogue box that allows you to upload pics from your PC.
