We Need Your Thoughts!! Calling All Members!

Hello, we need your thoughts on how we fund WCN/WCF. In the past, we have offered memberships; it is important to note that these memberships provide only a custom title and no special access to forums. We want to make it clear that no one NEEDS to give to have full access. We will also be adding some ads in certain places on the site. We are hoping to be able to pay our license fees, hosting fees, as well as making some improvements which have gone a bit stagnant. We are all ears on ideas.

I want to reiterate that no one will ever be forced to pay for access to the forums or a special message board. This is only to keep the lights on. Thanks all!

I think A FEW ads here or there is a good idea. I’m also willing to to send a check to contribute from time to time. I’m old fashioned and prefer that to Venmo whenever possible. My identity has been hacked multiple times in the past so I like checks. Thanks for asking.

WCN(F) had an influx of posters who left another forum over requests for payment. I don't want to see that happen here. Are the server fees about to expire?

This site has lost several really good and well respected posters over the last year or so. I miss seeing them around here and don't want to lose more.

I won't spend a lot of time responding to this. If you don't know the difference between charging for site access and collecting donations to keep a site paid for then I'm not sure what to say.

As for the posters who have left, you don't know the full story. It is unfortunate they decided to leave (or appeared to leave) but I will not be airing that out.

Most of us left the old rafters after the merger with on3. There was too much uncertainty around it all, so people spread out and some ended up back there since they kept it free. This place is way more civil than rafters, so I picked this place to stay and post.

I hate ads, I can not lie; but I understand their purpose here. As long as they aren't all over the place, it should be okay. The KSR page is an example of way too many ads. I just don't want to be reading something and then have to click out of several pop up ads.

For raising money, I think transparency is key. Letting people know the general costs of everything that is needed to keep going, etc. goes a long way.

Server fees aren't the only cost associated with the site but I feel like you think you know something that you don't actually know.

Website Hosting: Paid Until July 2027
Database Hosting: $40 per Month (Currently paid personally)
vBulletin License Fees: $199 Annually (This is new and the reason this conversation has started, we will soon no longer receive updates including security fixes. It used to be every 2 years which I paid personally.)

This does not even touch on the cost of the tailgates.
