    Alert For Outside Cat Owners

We just lost one of our cats to Bobcat fever. Sunday evening she seemed fine. Monday morning when I went to feed them, she wouldn't eat. Also, she was extremely lethargic. I thought perhaps she had caught and ate something that didn't agree with her and within a couple of days she would be ok. By Wednesday morning she wasn't any better and I took her to the vet where they began aggressively treating her. Alas it was too late and she died this morning.

Never heard of bobcat fever. We live in Florida and outside cats have very short lives around where we live due to foxes, bobcats, coyotes and alligators. Sorry for your loss. My wife and I have had at least one pet (both cats and/or dogs through the years) for all but about 6 weeks of our 38-year marriage. We've been extremely lucky that they've all (except one who got cancer) lived well into their teens. But, losing one just crushes me for at least a week. I feel your pain, bro.

Thanks, Jaxcat. My wife and I have been married for over 45 years and, during that time, we've had dozens of cats and several dogs. We don't have any children or grandchildren, so we get very close to our pets.

I’m really sorry to hear that, Matt. I hadn’t heard of Bobcat Fever, but it’s a tick-born illness. Strange that it doesn’t affect bobcats, with that name.

Thanks capcat. Much to my detriment I always play the old "iffin game" as coach Claiborne used to say. As I previously stated, we've had dozens of cats down through the years and not a one of them died that I didn't question myself as to whether I could have done something different that would have made the outcome different.

So sorry Matt. We have 4 cats. The oldest will be 15 in July. The others are 6, 3 and 2. They are indoor cats. We have lost several thru the years. Never easy. We have also fostered for several years with a rescue and have lost a few. Often they are sick. The rescue often pulls from high kill shelters in Eastern Ky “hollers”. It can be tough, but mostly rewarding. BTW, If anyone wants is in the Louisville area, we desperately need volunteers. CatheadsKittyrescue

Thanks. Cathy. We've lost several down through the years. It never gets any easier to deal with.

Our almost 15 years old is the sweetest, most social cat we have had. The younger Tom’s are friendly, but not like my overweight fluffy girl
