    5 Albums/CDs you'd want on a desert island

If you could only listen to 5 albums/CDs for the rest of your days - what would they be?

I'm going to have to think about this for a while. I love listening to music different genres from 1955-79 so this is going to be difficult for me.

      ^Yeah, me too.

I'm pretty sure I'd have Quadrophenia by The Who (hard to leave off Who's Next, but, imo, Entwistle is somehow even better on Quadrophenia)
I'm torn between Hot Rocks, v1 and Exile on Main Street from the Stones - a lot of their great early hits/classics on HR, but, damn, EoMS has SO many absolute killer songs

Those above, for sure. After that...?
-Surely there's a compilation of either Motown or Stax from the 60s and I'd have to have one of them
      -Making Movies by Dire Straits
      -Boston's first album
-Compilation of Chess Records blues artists
      -CCR Chronicle
-What's the Story Morning Glory by Oasis (the deluxe version that includes B-sides such at Acquiescence, The Masterplan, Rocking Chair, etc.)
      -Rumors by Fleetwood Mac
There are several more albums that I think/thought were nearly flawless but I don't know if they would make the cut if I had to limit it to five.

For my island collection, I can safely rule out: the Beatles, Dylan, heavy metal, anything later than about 1996, classic country (although Red Dirt country might sneak in there), Led Zeppelin, Skynyrd (would love to include the Allmans but which one?), grunge, Eagles, Springsteen, U2, other 'huge' artists that I may like but not in a 5-album collection.

      It's a tough question.

But which specific albums, not just the artist. Makes it a lot harder, imo.

Man was this tough and I left off some great artists such as The Rolling Stones, The Who, Elton John, The Steve Miller Band and Bob Seger to name a few. Also, I didn't list any Country, Jazz, Blues or Instrumental groups.

Interesting list for sure. And, limiting it to 5 albums makes it even harder as some artists have multiple albums you love.

Looking at Cathy's list, The Beach Boys two record album Endless Summer is a favorite of mine. Also, I was listening to CCR's Chronicles a few minutes ago.

^LOVE ABB and would have to put one of their albums in the five I'm stranded with. But the umpteen minute 'Stormy Monday' is just too long for me to want to listen to it multiple times. While I appreciate the musicianship (like I do with 'jam bands'), after about 4 or 5 minutes my brain starts screaming, 'Can we PLEASE get to the next song?' I don't like jazz as it feels to me that it's more about the musicians onstage than the audience. Starting with a fairly standard 12-bar blues song and modulating and improvising and switching modes and all that technical stuff is great for the musicians. For me as an audience member, not so much. Feels/sounds too much like musically pleasuring yourself for my taste. OTOH, their version of 'Statesboro Blues' is one I could listen to day after day after day... To each his/her own, right? But, I do think I'd have to include one of their albums and probably Eat A Peach.

Are you sure about Eat A peach? Two sides of that is Mountain Jam LOL.

I love the Allman Brothers I couldn't tell you the number of times I saw them or the various solo projects. I just gave away a box of audience recordings. almost every show that they played from 6/16/2000 till the last show on on 10/28/14. I kept all my shows from when Dickey Betts was still in the band.

Yeah, but Melissa, Ain't Wastin Time No More, Blue Sky, One Way Out - would hate to omit those songs. Maybe a 'best of' so I can avoid the jams.
