I think we've finally decided to get one as well. We're thinking perhaps a GENERAC.

We're still getting some light snow here. Ours went off last night I suspect somewhere between 11:00 P.M. and midnight. I woke up sometime during the night and the house was very cold. I looked at my clock by my bed and it was off and I thought "oh no". It was probably off for about 10 hours and is back on now thank the Lord.

We have power cuts often enough that it seems like a worthwhile expense to my wife and me, Matt, particularly since we plan to age in place here in the Kentucky River Palisades. We're also looking at Kohlers. I have a Lexington company, Greenbox Home Services, coming out when the roads clear(!) to give an installation estimate. They sell and service both brands.

Sorry you all are dealing with this. Hope it doesn’t keep happening. My family is caught up in that Oxford Ms winter storm outage and destruction. Only good thing is they have the week off. However, no power and lots of clean up to do from fallen trees.

Thanks, capcat. We're still going to be dealing with some very cold temps for a while but, prayerfully, there won't be any more power outages. It's 5 here right now. I'd like to give a shout out to utility workers everywhere and especially to the people who go out like they did this past weekend and work in horrible conditions to restore people's electricity. They're unsung heroes who don't get enough recognition in my opinion. Our provider is Jackson County RECC.

Matt, Cummins makes a good household generator.

The sun is shining here as well and it's 25 now.

our driveway and porch sidewalks are all completely clear
                          That sunshine today has helped
                          The main roads are good
                          Neighborhoods are still a mess

Our neighborhood got plowed. So it’s OK. No school tomorrow or Thursday.

We had a mostly sunny day but there's still lots of snow on our sidewalks, driveway and in the yard. I need to make a trip to Walmart in the morning. I guess I'll find out about the road conditions then.
