    Winter Storm

Even if you're on the edge this one has the potential to be catastrophic. Make arrangements and stay in unless you have to go out. Stay safe and warm my friends.

I wish the weather folks could agree on what, when, and where. Looks like we are in line for over a foot of snow and some freezing rain at this point. Pretty dangerous storm.

WAVE3 is waiting til this afternoon to give total estimates. Looks like it I’ll be substantial. Went to the grocery yesterday, but forgot coffee. Will be going back today. From what I am seeing, totals are starting with 6”.

Right now TWC is giving snow beginning Sat. afternoon followed up with freezing rain on Sun. for Corbin. That's the kind of stuff that knocks out electricity. With the forecast for brutally frigid temps to follow if you don't have a generator or some kind of back up heat source you're in a world of hurt.

I wanted to buy a generator this summer and it didn't happen. Luckily I have a wood burning fireplace and I have some wood. I hope if power goes out it is backup within a day or two.

Going to leave my water dripping too.

We’re forecast for a winter storm, too. I stocked up on groceries but, like you, I forgot coffee. Took care of that yesterday. Hope you all escape dangerous winter weather.

We have a wood burning fireplace as well. Our problem is we live in a two-story house (nearly 3,000 sq. ft.). Also, we keep two cats in a sunroom that has three glass walls. We heat it with an EdinPure heater. If it's not heated it gets as cold in there as it does outside. We also keep three more in an unheated garage.

My daughter lives in Denver where they've had almost no 'winter' thus far. She says it's supposed to hit hard there and in the mountains where they are way below normal for snow. Highs in the mid-teens with lows near 0. As GOT characters liked to say, 'Winter is coming'. She's staying in all weekend and, hopefully, can work from home early next week. Some areas in the Midwest are expecting >12" so stay safe.

They said earlier that this winter storm is over 1800 miles long. Looked longer than that on the map they showed. Crazy stuff.
People shouldn't be afraid of their government. Governments should be afraid of their people.

I’m hoping the snow dumps this weekend in CO. Skiing has been rough all season. I usually go up on Fridays and hoping for some fresh powder.

WLKY is saying now Louisville could get 12 inches
I'm glad we do have a generator

Wow. I need to keep up with this.

They can definitely use it. I saw where both Copper and Vail had ~ 27" base currently. That's like normal early November base, not mid-January. A lot of the mid- and southern Rockies are way below normal. But, Jackson Hole, IIRC, has ~75" base and has seen almost 200" of snow already. It's been a weird one out there.

Beyond the ski resorts, though, without a big uptick in snow, a lot of folks will be on water restrictions for most of the spring, summer and fall. We skied about 10-15 times a year when we first moved there (Arvada). Then, when it was taking us almost 3 hours to get to Idaho Springs on the weekend (about 40 mi from our house and still 10+ mi east of Eisenhower Tunnel), we severely cut back. I just refused to spend more time in the car getting to the slopes than actually skiing.

I am getting worried that the back bowls/high altitude terrain will hardly open this year. Rode Mary Jane opening day and was shocked it was even open, every 15 seconds through the trees you would hit a log, rock, whatever. At Copper I was having to dodge small tress coming through the snow. There seems to be a lot more injuries, and even some deaths, due to the poor conditions. If the snow doesn't come, I will be very concerned about the summer and wildfires.

Luckily I work 4x10s and get Fridays off, and that is my ski day. I try to avoid going up on Sat/Sun between Christmas - spring break. I live in Denver now, Lakewood before that, and that trip up 70 can be brutal.
