I think about things I want to do or not do in the coming year. Usually the same things. Lose some weight, have more patience, try less to change things I have no control over and stay healthy.

A lot of diabetes on my father’s side. He, along with his siblings had it. So did m6 grandfather. My sister has it. I try to watch carbs. It easier for me because I can stay away from sweets. My biggest downfall is crackers. Not a good “ go to “ snack.

I need to get healthier as well. I've had 3 years of some mild to moderate health issues and I've let myself get lazy and develop some bad habits. I want to lose some weight and get more consistent exercise like I used to. I'm also planning to do dry January. Maybe that will become a habit as well.Comment

^I was never much of a drinker - don't insist no one drinks, but just never got into it much. Once my wife contracted long COVID (a never-ending battle, it seems - thanks, Pfizer!), she gave it up altogether as it really messed with her system. I probably have <6 drinks per year now and it's definitely a one-off when I do. Giving it up (or severely cutting back) may be a very easy thing to do once you break that mental cycle of 'when I do this, I normally have a ....'. I've found that as long as I have a cup of something in my hand at parties, no one really ever notices that I'm not drinking so it's never a problem. Good luck.
One big deterrent for me: I still remember my last hangover (about 4 years ago now) and it seemed to last forever. I came to the realization that I'm too old to drink like that any more (I'm 'only' 62 now). When you feel like you just had a decent buzz and the hangover lasts > 2 days, it's a sign that you're not cut out for drinking.👍 1Comment
