Why is there not a way to contribute to WCN?

I understand that this is, somehow, controversial.

However, sites like this aren't free.

They're free to post on, sure. Certainly that is so.

However, there are costs involved such as Domain names, software packages, site maintenance, etc, etc and so on and so forth.

Why is there not a Paypal and Venmo button up top for those of us who would like to contribute?

No drive for cash. No lust for money. No profit. Just a way to contribute to keeping this site going.

I've given money to the site over the years. I've contributed at the tailgates. I've purchased a canopy once for the tailgate.

On the old Wildcat Faithful site, I purchased t-shirts.

I'm not talking about asking people for money or deadline driven fund drives and the like.

A few individuals put a lot of work into the site and the football tailgate.

Why not just have a Paypal button and/or a Venmo button up at the top/bottom of the main page. If people want to drop five bucks into it every now and again, that would help with site maintenance, maybe a new freakin', non-antique TV at the tailgate, offset food costs at the tailgate and continue to be a cool community for a long time to come.

It's because of inflation. Those buttons cost too much.
Going forward, Christian Laettner volunteers to catch any dildos flung on a basketball court - or anywhere else.

I thought a big reason for the influx of new members was the “other site” was going to start charging. “No drive for cash” but a pay button at the top seems like a drive for cash.

It's not a drive for cash. it's not a "charge".

It's not "Hey, you have a pay wall!"

It's a subtle "If you want to contribute, you can."

I've contributed over the years. I don't get people who don't want to contribute to their community. I guess I'm just strange in that way.

Hey all. We will soon be offering merch and looking at a few other ways to allow completely opt-in donations. We can do many things to grow the forums and the site in general but of course nothing is free.

It's my understanding that the site expenses for the next two years were already paid by a few (or one) member.
