New ESPN App - More Info

Apparently, today kicks off promotion of it. Here is a little more info than I've heard thus far:

ESPN launched today its new direct-to-consumer streaming service and a set of new features on an enhanced ESPN App, making ESPN’s full suite of 12 networks and services available directly to fans for the first time ever. The unique combination of ESPN DTC within the updated ESPN App gives fans more choice and unprecedented access to all of ESPN, with an elevated viewing experience that makes watching sports more personalized, dynamic and engaging for fans than ever before. A sports fan’s dream.
Going forward, Christian Laettner volunteers to catch any dildos flung on a basketball court - or anywhere else.

I'm just shocked a bit by the $30 price tag. I'll ikely give it a try but this is yet another streaming service making me miss cable.

Well for me, I have been subscribing to either YouTubeTV (now $90/month) or SlingTV (now ~$65/month) the last few years when college football starts. I cancel it after basketball season. So, subscribing to ESPN makes a lot of sense. I can get some sports - mostly football - from the antenna on NBC, CBS and Fox to complement the ESPN subscription.

I think I saw in there that it is a 12 month package deal. No telling what it will cost next year.

That's a good point. I stopped Youtube TV and hadn't thought about it but you are right.

Oh, well $12 isn't bad. I had seen $30 when the announcement came about WWE PLE's moving over there.

Wow, Sling jumped up to $65 now? I’m like you, usually start it up sometime during football and cancel after March Madness. I remember getting Sling about 9 years back and it was something like $25 with the sports package included.

I don't watch anything else outside of sports on it, so I will test out this during football and see if it’ll do come bball season.

It's $30/month for 12 months. I suspect it will be substantially higher next year after they get everyone hooked. Still sounds like a good deal for this year anyway. It should work for me as ABC is the only major one I can't get over the air locally. I would like to see more info on how it works on desktop pc. They say many times in the article "connected tvs", but that is not my preferred way of watching.

Thanks for the info. That's worth it then. Like you say I would bet it goes up in year 2.

Well, I didn't go and price it out this time around, but I've usually had to add the Sports Add-on on top of Sling Orange and I thought that's about where it was last time I checked.

You can do an option that's $30/month as a monthly subscription. Signing up for a whole year nets you some extras like Disney+ and Hulu that I don't care about. And don't forget, the Unlimited package also brings in all of the ESPN+ content as well.

You're right, I looked at an old billing statement from Feb and was charged $58.70 for it. Jeez, it use to be a great deal.

Just signed up for it. $30/mo also includes Disney+ and Hulu with ads. Another $9/mo eliminates ads. The 'regular' price will be $35/mo so not that much of a jump. I've been subscribing to Sling for several years and it's steadily increased in price. This year, the Orange package did NOT include the SECN, which carried a $11/mo adder bringing it up to roughly $70/mo with taxes. I say, 'Hell no.' Sling has 80 channels or something like that and, other than ESPN and the Tennis Channel, I watch exactly zero of the channels.

The ESPN app at $30/mo is a bargain for me. Plus, I will watch very occasionally Disney+ and, a bit more often, a show on Hulu (LOVE Will Trent show). Next year after this special expires, the whole bundle without commercials should be around $45/mo, according to the info I read this morning. I might, at that point, turn it on and off for CFB season or just keep it going, depending on what's on D+ and Hulu.

Isn't the version that includes Disney+ and Hulu a full year subscription? As in, if you subscribe monthly, you don't get Disney/Hulu? Or am I reading that wrong?

I don't want to subscribe for a year. I just want monthly. And I already have Hulu for $2 a month (Black Friday deal).

I just upgraded my ESPN+ to the same. Questions if you have time. How are you accessing content (I'm using ESPN website via Desktop Pc) If you are doing the same, can you advise how to access the Hulu content. I don't see any sort of linking from the above, and logging in at Hulu doesn't recognize me as paid - I just get a sales page with plans and no access to content. Hulu help system is a goose chase if you know what I mean. Thanks.
