Right, but that's the thing: I don't really care if the nonsense takes place. It doesn't affect me, other than being annoying and cringeworthy. I just like watching sports, and if it means I have to sit through some goofy ass virtue signaling to do it, cool.
I understand why some people see it differently.👍 1Comment

You're a better man than me. In many cases, I have done and continue to separate the art from the artist (I mean, my favorite band is the Rolling Stones and they're poster children for bad behavior, drugs, dumb political statements, etc.). But, there is a limit.
The Dixie Chicks singer (I can't remember her name) who said she was ashamed to be an American because W. Bush was the President - I won't listen to their music any longer. Pink told the press that if you're a Republican, she doesn't want you to listen to her music. Well, OK, I'll do just that. Springsteen bad mouthing the country and the President when touring in Europe - nope, not acceptable (especially from someone who has posed as a 'working class' musician for decades after accumulating $100s of millions from the working class fans who pay for his shit). Totally acceptable to have a political opinion and endorse whomever you choose. You want to go on a late night talk show and blather about your opinion - fine. But, don't carve out time of your concert to preach and proselytize about how the country is f*cked when half the audience disagrees with your political stance and 100% of the audience didn't pay to hear your opinion. There's a time and place and that's neither the time nor the place, imo. I have cut way back on my Springsteen listening since those comments came out for 2 reasons: 1) I believe his comments were totally inappropriate, 2) so much of his music is derivative and I can pretty much cover his entire catalog with 10 songs vs the 50 or so I had in my Spotify rotation.
I don't watch the NBA because it bores me to tears. Because I don't care about the sport, what the players say or do on their platform is a non-issue. If I attended a game, however, and they had political content on the scoreboard or the players wore shirts with political statements or they played the 'Black National Anthem' instead of the national anthem, I'd have all kinds of problem with that - same reasons as the Springsteen example. Sports and entertainment should be non-political unless it's advertised as such, imo. For the same reason, don't have a prayer before a game that's broadcast to the entire stadium. Just not the right place for that.Comment

Brother, I was a Kanye West fan for about twenty years. Try explaining that shit away. At some point around 2018 when he really lost his marbles for good, I stopped trying. And NOW? Even I have a problem listening to his early records that I adore. There is, indeed, a limit.
With that said, this sort of political virtue signaling is just as prevalent on both sides of the aisle; the kneeling was cringeworthy, but the people clutching their pearls on the other side about it, like it really affected them in any way whatsoever, was equally cringeworthy. The unfortunate thing is that there are probably people on both sides of the issue who really take it to heart. I'm sure there are professional athletes who truly believe that there are systemic racial issues that deserve attention, and I'm sure there are people like you who take genuine offense to somebody who doesn't stand for the anthem, or whatever, but it's all drowned out by the performance art from followers and bad actors.
I find all the posturing and complaining rather silly; this applies to all athletes or musicians or actors or so on and so forth, even if I agree with their opinion.Last edited by KCKUKFan; 07-21-2025, 03:09 PM.👍 1Comment

Wrong.
His first six albums were all excellent, and his production for other artists was just as good.
But opinions are like assholes, and all that. I'm certainly not about to sit here and attempt to defend Kanye West in 2025.Last edited by KCKUKFan; 07-23-2025, 04:58 PM.Comment
