What destination is #1 on your bucket list?

Mine is and has been for quite some time Australia/New Zealand (I don't separate them as, if I'm going to fly for a day+ to that area of the world, I'm damn sure gonna visit both). Great Barrier Reef, Outback, kangaroos and other unique animals, southern part is supposed to be very beautiful. Several of my former clients told me they thought New Zealand was even prettier and more accommodating to US tourists. Certainly the LOTR movies had a ton of stunning shots of the scenery.

Second would be northern Italy - beautiful lakes, Alps, Milan/Venice, etc. If I ever go, I'll probably make it down to Rome but many people have told me it's a huge, modern city with a 5,000 year old structure thrown in periodically. Amalfi coast is also supposed to be gorgeous.

Probably won't get to travel to either. Australia trip is daunting and you'd have to take 2+ weeks to even scratch the surface. Italy is probably more likely but it's not high on my wife's list so who knows?

Places on my bucket list that I'm almost 100% sure I'll visit: Yellowstone/Tetons, Alaska, Redwood Forest, Sequoias and/or Yosemite

Those places you mentioned are intriguing. I always wanted to take an Alaskan cruise.

We had one booked for 2021 and cancelled it due to COVID concerns.

Our dilemma with Alaska cruises: do you go up and back via the NW Passage, do you go one way (see more things) and fly back or go one way, take a land tour up to Denali and THEN fly back? The potential downside to going to Denali is there's only about a 25% chance you'll be able to see much of the mountain (I've been told that it's so tall and large that it generally has its own weather system which results in a LOT of clouds that completely obscure the peak). But, we'll make it up there one of these days. We used to live in Denver area and getting to the West Coast was not nearly as long a flight as now since we've moved to Jacksonville, FL. We'll definitely get there, though. We're both in the 40s of number of states we've been in and Alaska and Yellowstone/Tetons would check off about 5 more.

Wife and I did Greece last year, which had been #1 on both of our lists. I'm not sure if it's everything we thought it would be, but it was pretty amazing. Especially the islands.

I'd say now, Japan and New Zealand would be 1a and 1b on the list. One of my best friends lives in Tokyo with his wife and kids, so I think that's our next "big" destination. Maybe 2027.

So many places come to mind. I would have to throw Thailand in there somewhere.

If it were possible, #1 would be Iran to see the old Persian Empire.

I've stepped a toe in Iran illegally. Not much further than a few hundred feet on the other side of Islam Qala.

                That would definitely be impressive.

Have visited several of the islands in the Caribbean - totally worth it. Our best cruise went out of San Jaun ( interesting place to visit) and hit 5 islands in 6 days. Swam with turtles a couple of times, snorkeled an old ship wreck, toured a mini rain forest, etc.

Badlands in SD is awesome. Equally awesome is Custer State Park near Mt Rushmore. Saw several hundred bison, dozens of bighorn sheep, a couple of gazelle, etc. Beautiful park. MT Rushmore is kind of meh. Cool to see but that's about it. Hard to spend more than an hour or two there. Around Mt Rushmore is a route through very interesting rock formations called the Needles. Definitely do that. Haven't been to ND yet.

There's a lot in the US I haven't seen but hope to do so.

Probably historical tours here in the US. I like a road trip. I’ve traveled to Europe and other directions. That was nice, it would just be more than I’d want now.

Out West is my #1 bucket list destination. I don't have much time for that now. I retire in 8 years and that's where we will be going Lord willing.
