    Spam Calls

For the past month I've been getting a lot of spam calls. They always come at the same time, which suggests it's probably one system robocalling, and here recently I've started to report and block on my iPhone. That's helped a little bit with the noontime calls, but I'm still getting 2 to 3 calls right around 6:00 p.m.

My wife is getting the same. Her situation might be from a Kohl's card she just opened.

Anybody else deal with this freakin nonsense and have a good idea how to stop it? Or is there no way to stop it? It's annoying as hell.

I don't know if there's any real way to stop it. I think whatever you try to do just ends up proving you're a real person and then they sell your number to someone else. It seems like the new version of Android has some enhanced spam protection. I saw a blurb on it, but don't know the details. I might go re-visit that. But mostly, I just never answer any calls from numbers I don't recognize. Ever.

I get the occasional run of scammer calls because I have a Coinbase account, but the thing I see the most is scam tollbooth texts.

Same. I haven't answered one of the calls in the eight-ten weeks this has been happening. I just block and report, block and report.

What's odd is that for many years, this wasn't a problem. Then we went down to my hometown in the 606 and my stepmother told me she'd been getting bombarded on her iPhone, and it began to happen to me (and to my son, and then a few weeks later my wife) after that.

Could be a total coincidence, but still odd.

Yeah that's odd. Might be that someone has found a way to pull numbers from the local cell tower? Who knows?

I have to answer unknown numbers because of my side business. Obviously someone calling from North Dakota isn’t inquiring about my services, but today’s bots and scammers can use local numbers, too.

mine come in spurts. My fav is the call saying I owe money to the IRS. When I tell them to call my accountant, they say I don’t have time. Good possibility I would be in jail in 24 hours. One time I told him great. Three meals a day and I don’t have to cook or clean. I’m in. They hung up. I seldom answer.

I set my phone to only ring if someone is in my contact list. Or if it’s a number I have made an outgoing call to previously. Otherwise straight to VM

We can fire friggin rockets to the moon but we can’t locate and pistol whip scammers. Ridiculous

I never ever answer or reply to spam calls or texts. I've got my iPhone set to silence unknown calls. I then block that number. I still get them despite my best efforts.

Unless I know the number or you're in my contacts, I never answer the phone. If it is important, you will leave a voicemail.

I didn't get them for years as my Google phone and account blocked them. I have been getting daily calls from Comcast of Mumbai. It is annoying. I may have to turn Google back on.
