    Magical Moments in Sports

I was talking with some friends about moments in sports that you simply won't forget. Other than UK related, what are your memories that stick out?

One for me is the Monday Night Football game Brett Favre had against the Raiders after his dad passed away. Some of the things he did in that game were simply incredible.

Without a doubt, the Belmont victory of Secretariat. Nothing even comes close...as much as I love the Cats and have thrilled to our national championships, that race was the single greatest sports moment of all time. I watched with my mother, grandmother, and a few friends...we all cried. It was magnificent.

This year was special for me. It was my first triple crown being born in 87.

When you've lived to be 70 years old, and began following sports when you were around 10, there are lots of great memories. Some of the Dodgers' games (especially some of Koufax' pitching performances), the epic Bill Russell-Wilt Chamberlain battles (being a Celtic fan, those are happy memories for me), Secretariat, NHRA's John Force, Phil Mickelson has provided some memorable moments as well. The older Colt teams have provided lots of good memories for me, and, therein, lies the most magical of all. It was the 1958 NFL Championship game between my beloved Colts and the N.Y. Giants. In what has been labeled The Greatest Game Ever Played, the Colts won in sudden death overtime.

Not much I can add to Matt Dillon's post, but Vernon Hatton's shot, watching the Kentucky Colonels win the ABA Championship and Bob Gibson's 3 wins in the World Series are memories I have.

USA's Miracle on Ice in 1980. It really doesn't get any better than beating the Russians. Probably the biggest upset in all of sports history.
            Kentucky fan since 1971.

This year's Women's World Cup ranks up there for me as well.

I'm only 43, but I've watched that race numerous times on youtube. I get chills everytime. Even shed a tear or two. My Grandparents on my Mothers side were HUGE Horse Racing fans. They had Secretariat stuff all over their house. I never got the affinity for horse racing until I got older. When I watch that race, it brings me back to a much simpler time and the memories of my Granparents come flooding in. My God what a special horse and an argument could easily be made as the best athlete of all time.

For me and those that I remember:
                  Miracle on Ice
Reggie Jacksons World Series home runs
                  Kirk Gibsons World Series homer
                  Stanford vs Cal
                  "What a play by Bird!"
                  Buster Douglas KOs Iron Mike

Of course, any UK big win or Title trumps these.
