It's been a few years since my childhoodMy mom always said that about February in Kentucky. I remember one winter, I believe it was 1963, our temp dropped to -21 in late January. Seems we got less snow back then, but more of a snowfall when it happened. However, my aunt said we had more snow, more often. That’s going way back, but she always remarked about it. Not sure if the numbers bear it out.
, but I recall quite a bit of snow each winter and it was so cold back then sometimes another snow would come before the first one melted. And ice storms that would break power lines. The elect. co. wasn't as efficient as they are now. Sometimes we'd be w/o electricity for what seemed like forever. Lack of electricity wasn't as big of a deal then as it is now. We heated and cooked with coal and had a couple of kerosene lamps for light. Of course there weren't any computers and people didn't watch tv as much as they do now. Ah, the good ole days.

Yeah, my dad grew up in a log home without any power. I asked how they slept in the winter. There was a big fireplace downstairs, kitchen was detached from the home. He signaled they slept upstairs under a big stack of what I guess were quilts. My grandmother was an excellent seamstress and wasted nothing. Anyway, they got through the cold without missing that nonexistent electricity to their home.

Per next week's forecast, our forecast is looking a lot like the Polar Vortex thing although they aren't calling it that.Last edited by Matt Dillon; 02-14-2025, 10:55 AM.Philippians 4:11-4:13Comment
