Phoenix Hill Tavern Closes after 40 year run

Had some great times there back in the 80's......... Fire Department, Spanky Lee, Nervous Melvin and the Mistakes............. and just a few years ago Jefferson Tarc Bus and Soul Bite would draw a crowd.
Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

I was disappointed to read this. Have seen a few shows there and I hate to see Louisville lose one of its live music venues. (Although Zanzabar seemed to have replaced Phoenix Hill over the last couple of years or so.)

And I was surprised to read it. I drove by recently and it looked much different than when I saw my last show there (probably 2011 or '12). Looked like they've put quite a bit of work into remodeling it fairly recently.

I was surprised as well. It'll be interesting to see what the new owner will have in store for the property.

If Ben Rogers is serious about reopening Jim Porters in a new location, he may be pooling $$$$ from this sale and the sale of Porters. That said, it'll be difficult to replicate the character of either property.

I used to spend a lot of time there in my early 20's. I loved the layout of the bar on all floors. A lot of good places I used to frequent are no more. This place, O Malleys corner, BAR, The Brewery.

Was watching reaction from residents that live around Phoenix Hill. Didn't realize all the problems it caused. The neighbors they interviewed were not sorry to see it go. Stated crime just this past Wednesday. Our places to see live, local bands/groups is at Woodhaven and every now and then Wulfe Bros, Blues/Grays and other locals will be playing in J*Town at either King Pin or Maple Inn. Have heard Louie Louie's (the one Grasanti restaurant) has a great venue on Thursdays of open band night. That is more our speed now

The people living around Phoenix Hill give me a chuckle in some regard. The area around Phoenix Hill was somewhat dead when PH opened up in the mid 70's. Folks started moving back into the area as the the north end of Baxter became revitalized. Most all of them have moved in since Phoenix Hill has been open. They knew what they were moving in to.
Kind of reminds me of the folks during the housing boom that moved into rural parts of Nelson County in these subdivisions that popped up in the middle of farm land. They then complain to their elected county officials about the noise and smells from the farms.

He opened it at age 21 and ran it for 40 years. That's pretty impressive.
